How can I get a copy of the manufacturer's installation instructions for a Hotpoint JX-81J over the range microwave oven?

JX-81J is the microwave recirculating charcoal filter for several models of GE and Hotpoint microwaves. The installation instructions will be available from the manufacturer with the model number of the microwave itself.

One microwave that uses this filter is the RVM1535MMSA . See http://products.geappliances.com/ApplProducts/Dispatcher?REQUEST=HPSPECPAGE&Sku=RVM1535MMSA#tab1_ for all of the details on this microwave. The owner's manual, http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=39-40541-1.pdf , shows the installation of the filter on page 34. The guide for installing the microwave above the range is http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=39-40425.pdf .

If you have a different microwave, add a comment with that model number. I hope this helps.

Just stopped heating anything last night, it's a Hot Point Counter Saver Plus but says on inside to call GE 1-800-626-6000

On that same label there is a MODEL number that we need to show you a parts listing of what parts may have failed. Hotpoint and GE are on in the same... the only difference is the brand name on the decals. Of course they use different model numbers.... Your model number will be similar to this: RVM1435BD001 I will use that as my parts reference model number as the interal parts that may have failed will be pretty much identical.

When a microwave just out of the blue stops heating usually the either the diode or the capacitor has failed.

See items 49 and 50 this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=221110

This unit also has 2 thermostats that can also cause it to stop heating. One actually controls the fan speed and the other is an over temp sensor that should shut off everything. The thermostat that controls fan speed shuts off the magnetron power on some units until the unit cools down and then it will work again.

If the magnetron has failed they usually make a loud buzzing sound when you turn on the unit from being cold. (Stuck oscillator) This can also cause the HV power diode and the unit fuse to fail.

Sears parts direct also has the parts for this unit here:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Hotpoint-Parts/Microwave-Parts/Model-RVM1435BD001/1811/0123370/G0302144/00001?blt=06&prst=&shdMod=

I change out the diode FIRST (after testing the old diode to make certain the diode has in fact failed.) I also test the capacitor while the diode is disconnected from the capacitor.

At this time I think you have a diode or a capacitor problem. If you have someone you know that can use a meter I can pass the information to them on how to test the diode and the capacitor so that you don't order parts that you DO NOT need.

If I got your model number wrong you can enter your model number on the displayed page of either link above. Or respond here with your model number and I will look up your unit.

It won't heat water, but it will turn around

Sounds like you lost your HV diode. Magnetron could be bad but these days they are pretty good. Diode costs about $5 at www.mcmelectronic.com . It is located in left side near the rear and should be straightforward replacement. Let me know how this works out. Thanks for using FixYa. Contact me if you need more info.

Microwave has power turn table works won't heat hotpoint model rvm1435bd 001

Check your door satey interlock switches.

If these switches fail (do you open the door while the machine is cooking?), the microwave doesnt know the door is shut and will not turn on the magnatron.

If you need more help, let me know.

Everything appears to work fine but it is not heating anymore.

If the microwave oven appears to be working but it is not heating the food, it is very possible that the magnetron, or its power supply has failed.
