bad switch or brushes

sounds like you have a problem with the armature. To easily check UNPLUG tool and turn the spindle by hand and listen for the clicking. It sounds like it may be a raised commutator bar. You can also remove the brushes and look into the brush tube with a flashlight and look for a major discoloration of the bars or one that is raised.

could be a couple things. UNPLUG tool and remove one handle half and see if it is jammed up with lambswool from the bonnet. It can get under the brushes causing the erratic power. If thoroughly clean the entire motor housing and then remove and check the brushes for wear. Let me know if you need more assistance.

I'm not sure I understand your question, but I'll give it a go.

The DW421 is a sander already. If you want to change it to a polisher, you can buy polishing pads to go on it.
If you have a Dewalt polisher and want to convert to a sander, you can buy sanding disks to fit your polisher. They are installed on the spindle and I believe you can get a backing pad for it also.

sonds like the brushes are not making contact, on the side of the motor body, there is two plugs, remove to see if they are worn out.......

no it`s the electronic module

Well as they say "when you let the smoke out you know its broke"
but it my just be the motor itself or the ,,,,brushes witch you can buy your self..prob time to look for that warranty .
