You may check if the VGA driver or BD/DVD drive firmware is up-to-date from hardware vendors' support page. Then check if this is the problem of your player. You can try a free DVD player to check it. You can try Leawo Blu-ray Player. If you find no choppy issue on another player, maybe you need to update the player program or get a new one.

Its not a error, your computer is just slow, try using vlc media player to play a dvd and tell me if it plays better

I have a dvd/cd SD-R6252 unit in my r3000 compaq presario. I've burned CDa but cannot burn a DVD. I think I know the answer but I want to be sure is this unit capable of burning DVDs?

Hi, well ur DVD\CDRW drive is a combo drive. It can play CDs\DVDs but burns only CDs as it's NOT a DVDrw @ the same time. It won't burn a DVD.

.... In future I propose u either to replace the drive by a DVDRW or u may buy an external slim dvdrw if u want to keep ur existing drive as well. 2nd solution is best BTW.

When I play a movie the picture and sound gets "choppy" even with NEW dvds

You can try using another media player. If that does'nt work ,your DVD drive may be bad or need cleaning.Sometimes a bad ram chip can cause the video to mess up.Try playing a movie directly from your HDD downloaded from a website and see if its choppy if its not then its your DVD drive. If it is still choppy it could be the media player your using or it does'nt have enough ram memory/virtual memory. If you have XP change your virtual memory settings and the refresh rate in task manager.(Bring up task manager,go to view tab then update speed to HIGH).

E-System laptop with slow dvd playback

This can be a bit of a tricky one to figure out. My initial response would be that you have another program or process that is causing your computer to play 'choppy' video. When you have a newer computer that was recently working just fine and now all of the sudden the video is choppy, it is usually due to another process using CPU cycles that are so important to video playback.

Start playing a DVD, but don't go to full-screen mode. Open the Task Manager. Right-Click on the task bar and select Task Manager. Click on the 'Processes' tab. There is a column labeled CPU, click on the heading 'CPU' twice. This will order the processes in order from highest CPU usage to lowest. The top two processes will most likely be your DVD player and the process that is causing your choppy playback. If the offending process isn't essential (i.e. anti-virus), then click on said process and then click the "End Process" button.

Hope this helps.
