Often times, these jump drives have a tiny, nearly invisible read-only switch on them. Check to see that it isn't set to read only, which will inhibit formatting, among other things.

1 Insert your SanDisk 8GB memory card into a card reader connected to your computer.
2 Double-click "Macintosh HD" on your desktop.
3 Click on the "Applications" folder, then the "Utilities" folder. 4 Double-click "Disk Utility". Look on the left side to locate the drive that says "SanDisk. 5 Select the capacity of the drive on the left side of the window. The capacity will state "8GB" or "8,388,608 kilobytes." Click on the "Erase" tab to format the memory card. When you see "SanDisk" listed as the device's name, the capacity will be located above. You need to select the capacity and not the device. 6 Select the appropriate "Volume Format." Under the "Volume Format" button, select the format you wish to use. Select "Mac OS Extended" if the SanDisk 8GB will only be used on Macs, or "MS-DOS (FAT)" if you will share the card between a Mac and PC. Select "Erase" to complete the format of your SanDisk 8GB memory card.
It sounds like in your situation that you may have a bad card. If you cannot get your card to mount to your phone for storage, I would try to find access to a pc that has an SD card slot that you can try to format it that way. If the card still wont format, your looking at a defective card and will need to purchase a new one.
I've had this problem with other Sandisk products. Sometimes, using the setup disk supplied with the unit is the only way to get a computer to recognize the unit. Often, once the computer recognizes the Sandisk unit, you can format it and use it reliably. If you don't have a setup disk, the Sandisk site, or others that have the appropriate drivers may help, but I've had less luck going that route. As a last resort, I've gotten a warranty replacement of the Sandisk unit, which usually works.
If the phone failed to format the SD card, try to format it through your computer. Connect the phone through the USB port located at the back of the tower. You'll be prompted that the PC detected 2 USB drives, the phone and the SD card. You will see it by going to My Computer folder. From there, right click the Letter drive represents the SD drive then select Format. I hope this helps.
The memory might be able to be saved. but if you have attempted to format it most likely the data is gone because that is what formating does. Now you can get an 8GB Micro SD for about 15$ so I would buy a couple and always back up important data daily.
Thanks, Lee
it will need to be smaller then 8gb...... also micro SD......... NOT micro SDHD .....you also need to format it using the phone (check user guide for info on how to do this)
hope this works for you .....good luck
Have your My Computer window open and re-insert the card into the reader. If it doesn't show immediately, then right click and choose refresh. It should show up then.
