I have rest TP router and configured using disc supplied, but cannot get onto internet(I am NON Technical, so laymans answer please)
Hi ,This is Clare Su from TP-LINK support technical force. To you issue,I have the following recommendations:1. try to use only one line to connect to the internet, and see if you can watch the video on youtube2.if you can see the video with one line connected to the internet. Then, you can get another internet line with the router. And you can try to set the rule to the website: youtube, let the flow from youtube come in and out just from one wan port.if you can't solve the issue with my recommendation, you can email me. I will help youas soon as possible. My email is:clare.su from tp-link.com

yeap it should be the firewall, here is the manual http://www.tp-link.com/resources/software/201161017075118.pdf
think this should help you.
But if you want my expertise, make the tp-link as a router and vdsl just the internet line. connect it to router wan and buy a switch for all your devices. That should be the safest and smartest way.
Testimonial: "Hi, I've finally found some time to test the dissabling the FW and I can say that in my case it helped. I can see now from TP-LINK IP cameras connected to the VDSL modem/router. Well done guys, thank you for your help. Kvinar"

this is because your modem is out dated your better off getting a new one

may find this page helpful. http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php...om_a_Bad_Fl ash Its not for the TP-Link router but the same principle could be applied to you with the correct firmware. Its worked for me on more than a few occasions. Providing you can ping the router via a lan cable then the chances of recovering it are very high.
SOURCE: I just brought a Tp-link TD-w896ON but the internet speed 1.67 mbps ??
The line speed is controlled by your internet service provider, not by your router. If you have something like AT&T as your internet service provider, then they sell 3 or 4 different line speeds or packages. The cheapest will get you the slowest line speed. So if you have a 300mbps router but you purchased AT&T's cheapest line speed it will never allow you to do downloads, uploads or streams at 300mbps. You gotta Pay to Play. :)

I have had a TP-Link TD-WD8901G router for a couple of years and have used it as an alternative router to get into the Orange Broadband system. I have thick walls in my home and the supplied Orange router did not give a WIFI signal across the whole house, I placed the TP LINK router in my roof space (my home is a bungalow) and when I wanted to use WIFI I physically swapped the telephone connection from the Orange router to the TP Link one, it worked OK I have now changed my ISP to BT (who provide a HUB router), but WIFI is still poor in sections of the house. I have tried configuring the TP Link router (after re-setting) using the disc provided and also by manual set up, neither work. Can you provide a solution or is it simply that the TP Link router cannot get into the BT system?
