My machine isn't picking up the bobbin thread correctly. It seems that the bobbin is 'jumping' and the bobbin thread is tangled. I've cleaned, replaced the bobbin, replaced the needle, and re-threaded the top but nothing works. It will sew OK for a while and then starts making noise and the bobbin thread is a mess.

double check the upper and lower tensions they often need to be changed to suit types of fabric and threads

Make sure you have a good needle in and that it is in the correct way round, if that does not work you may need to retime the machine but I need the model number

You may have the needle in wrong. Check to be sure it's positioned correctly, The groove down the center of the needle should face the front of the machine. And be certain the needle is pushed completely up in its holder. If neither of these work, you might just double check the bobbin!

It sounds like your timing is in need of adjustment and unfortunately you need special tools and know how. So, you have to take it in for service.

I noticed a "nick" in the bobbin case and took it to my local repair shop. They sanded the nick off and I placed it back in the machine. It didn't solve the problem - was probably a result of the problem. Gave up and took my machine to my local quilt shop/sewing machine repair.
