Could be worn or sticking float valve, located in bowl of carburetor. to test turn off fuel, remove bowl from carburetor, gently raise floats all the way with finger, turn on fuel, it should not leak until released.

Have genrec 1000exl gen with nikki 6100 carb, surges

Governor "hunt" is almost always a carburetor or intake air issue. Check the carburetor mounting bolts are not loose (causes vacuum leaks between carb and intake). Suggest you drain and replace fuel with fresh fuel, check for water in fuel. Don't forget to drain the carburetor fuel bowl (may be try this first).

If still hunting, likely carburetor is fouled, try cleaning and or replace.

Engine on generator starts but hunts all the time so i cant check output on generator

Governor hunting is almost always a carburetor issue. Likely air leak (vacuum) between carburetor and engine intake. Make sure carburetor has not come loose. If carb/gasket mounting ok, suggest drain and replace fuel. Drain and clean the carburetor bowl as well.

If still hunting, likely the carburetor has fouled. You can try a fuel treatment e.g.1oz/gal seafoam and see if problem clears otherwise carb clean/rebuild or replace.

2003 Kawasaki Vulcan 800 classic has a fuel leak from the carburetor

More than likely you have a bad fuel petcock. No fuel should go from tank to carb without the engine running because the fuel is pulled by vacuum. Remove line from petcock an have it set to on or reserve position and if fuel comes out it is bad, and let's the fuel continue to flow to the carb and seep into the engine oil also. Mine was bad and had my oil thin as water with all the gas in it. Wonder it didn't wash a bearing out of the engine. Check and drain oil immediately if the petcock is bad.

There is oil and gas coming out of the carburetor. What is the problem?

The oil coming out of your carburetor is coming from your crank case. Either you have a stuck float, a stuck float needle, dirt in your carburetor, or you have a vacuum style petcock with a leaking diaphragm. Take apart and clean your carburetor. Drain your tank , take apart and inspect your fuel petcock. If the diaphragm is bad repair it with a K&L rebuild kit or put on a new petcock. Inspect your air filter if it is saturated with oil replace it and drain the excess fluid out of the air box. Also check your engine oil, if your crankcase is too full (gas/oil mixture) you will need to change your oil before running the engine.

Fuel over flows thru overflow tubes only when motor is running. motor off ignition on it stops.

Hello
Your gas tank petcock is diaphram operated.
there is a vacuum line coming off the intake, that goes straightb to the petcock.
when you turn the motor over a vacuum is created, pulling the petcock diaphram back and allowing fuel to flow to your carburetor. when you turn the motor off the vaumm is gone and the spring behind the diaphram pushes it closed and stops the fuel flow to the carbs.

Now the reason the carbs are overflowing is because the floats valves are not closing, in other words the floats are sticking.
Usually a good carb clean will cure the problem, especially for that year.
the older ones usually require new float valves/seats that are usually found in a good carb rebuild kit. You shouldn't need one.

If your really broke try tapping on the bowls of the carburetor lightly, while the engine is running, sometimes the vibration will vibrate a particle loose that may be holding open the float valve.
if it works then the fuel should stop overflowing while running.

if you know how to work on it, try this, with the engine off.
open the carburetor drain screws so that fuel will run out the carb. drain. flush out the carb.
get a container to catch the gasoline.
while fuel is flowing tap the carb bowls a few times then closed the drain screws.
clean up any spilled gasoline .
start your bike.see if they stop leaking and the floats are closing.
if it still leaks, you'll need the cleaning.

Happy Riding

Mower starts but within 3-5 seconds conks out. like it is not getting gas

The brass bolt that holds the bowl on the carburetor may be clogged. This bolt also is the Main Jet of the carburetor. Drain the gas. Remove the carburetor float bowl bolt and washer. Clean the bolt without using any metal tools. Pay close attention to the holes in the bottom and along the smooth length near the top. The holes are very small. Insert no wires or metal objects to clear this holes. This will restore correct fuel flow thru the carburetor and may solve your problem . Engines run without fuel filters and old stale gas and evaporation lead to and contribute to this problem.

My brush cutter can start but only for a while. At the bottom of the carb there are leakage where drop of fuel can be seen. Plus I already adjust the throttle that can move the fuel intake nicely. I can't...

The engine slowly stopping sometimes indicates an air-leak somewhere on the machine. It could be at the carburetor to engine gasket, the crankshaft housing cover, the cylinder to crank housing bolts or even a crankshaft seal. More commonly it is the carburetor is sucking extra air thru a defective gasket, the screws on the carburetor's covers are loose or the rear crankshaft housing cover is leaking.

How do i drain gas from 20hp 42in yard tractor?

The best way will be to take the fuel line off the carburetor or off the fuel pump, if so equiped, and put it lower than the fuel tank on the mower. Drain into a gas container. You can then put this gas in your vehicle to burn, rather than let it sit and go stale over the winter months.

If you are just taking the fuel out for the winter, and not for any other purpose, you can purchase some fuel stabilizer, called "Stabil", and put about 2 oz. per gallon of gas that's in your mower tank. Slosh it around a bit, start your mower and let it run, or take it for a spin around the yard to make sure you get the stabilizer mixed in well and down into your carburetor.

If you do drain the fuel for the winter, after you are done start your mowers engine and let it run the carburetor dry. That will keep it from evaporating too bad and gumming up your carb. Still a good idea to run some stabilizer thru the carb prior to draining the tank.
