The screen has good contrast sometimes but mostly it is faint. can this be fixed?

The displays can just be swapped out, or an electronics engineer can replace the capacitor that is on the rear of the display board. The same issue happens to microwave oven and radio displays.

First though, you can try spraying the works of the button wheel with Switch cleaner.

Singer Brilliance foot pedal does not work?

Question edited for clarity. Add maker, 'Brilliance' not 'Brilliant'.

Information on checking the foot pedal, but the last article said it was the main control board on this model, but there are a number of model numbers named 'Brilliance'.

Why is my foot pedal on sewing machine not working? Unplug the cable from the power outlet and also the machines. Use a screwdriver to take the foot pedal apart and check the wires and connections and make sure nothing is blocking it. If you can't find anything wrong you may need to buy a new foot pedal.

Have you checked the Troubleshooting section of your owner's manual? If you are still unable to get the display to work, there's a pretty good chance there is an electronic failure and it needs service. You can probably call Janome's Support department.

I powered my machine on and there was a black line down the screen. The machine still sews and embroiders but I would like to know what caused this and is this major?

If there is a black line down, or across the display and the line is there no matter what 'information' is being displayed, I'm afraid it sounds like there's a row or column of pixels (or actually, it's the display driver) that has gone faulty on your LCD display and the only solution is to have the display replaced. It will not affect the operation of the machine at all and may be an isolated failure. You dont state what model of machine this is, so I cant give you an idea of price, but it does require the front panel to be removed and the main processor board to be taken out to get at the display ... for this reason, you must have the work done by a decent Bernina service agent that has the proper anti-static protection on their work-bench - static can cause long-term problems with machines if not properly discharged. It's not a cheap repair, so you may just want to put up with it, unless, of course, it's still under warranty (2 years for electronic parts).

No display

Do any of your stitches work? Does the machine sew at all? If not, one of your circuit boards is bad or you have a blown fuse.If the machine works but you have no display, get out your instruction book and see how to adjust the brightness on your display. If it doesn't work at all, it needs to go to a technician who is familiar with and can get Pfaff parts. This usually means an authorized Pfaff dealer.
