How to install a lowrance elite 4 hdi

To connect your Garmin 741sx with your Raymarine ST 4000 using NMEA 183, you will need an NMEA 0183 interface cable to connect the two devices. Here are the steps to follow:

1. Obtain an NMEA 0183 interface cable that has the correct connectors for your Garmin 741sx and Raymarine ST 4000.

you only use if you connect a radio with long/ lat display or auto pilot. otherwise do not connect them

As Anreas said, The new standard for NAMEA is 2000 used to communicate between multiple devicsess wth multiple talkers. 0183 can only have one talker

red and black are the + and -
The other wires can connect up to an external NMEA device. If you are not going to connect an external device then just tape them up to get them out of the way

The additional wires are for NMEA data transfer to and from other devices and sensors like distance, speed, depth, temperature and NMEA 0183 sentences the unit will use when connected to a VHF radio or other NMEA 0183 device.
