Run a little vineagar and water solution through it. Then all you should run in the machine is distilled water so you dont get that residue and mineral build up on the heating element.
Minerals in the water clog up the steam outlet tube on these units. You have to open the unit and look for the outlet from the steam generator and try to unclog with a wire.
