Cook top indicator light will stay on as long as the stove is hot I think. Also, the burners don't heat real steady? or evenly or true to their settings even, quite often. they also take a really long time to cool down as well as to adjust temperatures, so it may just be that it is taking an awfully long time for it to cool down in order to adjust.
This cook top light may stay on until the heating element has cooled down, This is a warning that the top is still hot to warn you so you do not get burnt.
Every time you try to light just one burner the ignighter will try to light them all. The reason why is that they are all wired to the same switch under the cook top. There is nothing to be worried about. That is the way the factory made the cook top.
OK, the best action is to call for service, if the unit was just installed, and purchased. This unit should be covered at this time, by the manufactures warranty, or store 30 day warranty. This repair should be free. The culprit will be a faulty spark ignition switch, and module. Testing is required. Once this switch, or(module), is replaced, the unit will operate correctly.
Don't really need a wiring diagram, although there may be one inside switch area. (make sure to put it back again if it is there) Will need the full model number to get you the part number you need. (model number usually on a sticker near where the electrical wire enters the cook top)
Turn off power to cook top. Open cover to switches. Pull two "pilot" (usually smaller spade terminals) off the switch for the right front burner, and insulate each with a bit of electrical tape. Turn power back on to see if light now off. If yes, replace that switch. If no, replace those wires and repeat procedure with the next switch until you find the bad switch. unplug unit allow to dry ..12 to 24 hours,,or cut breaker to stove,,,try again..if still lite..you ground out,,you have to take a look at light circuit for ground short
Hi
Even though you do not mention the brand and model of your Gas top, I am pretty sure that, that specific switch is bad.
With more info about the type and model I might be able to help you more.
I just had the same problem- when I replaced the whole cartridge. I repalced the infinite switch- do the one that gets the hottest- or do both. It is easy to do- just write down the wiring diagram - make sure all power is off- cost of new switch was about $37.00 This solved the problem- however make sure to check the sizng on the new switch shaft as my old knob would not fit properly on the shaft of the new switch. good luck
problem with hob is probably water ingress in area of ignition unit - will probably cure itself
oven is a completely separate unit from hob. problem with it is that you have to re-set the clock - you have it on automatic. after power outage, oven clock always has to be reset
