Extremely loud squealing coming from surround sound receiver!!

For the past 3 months my surround sound started emitting an extremely loud squealing noise. The noise over powers everything. Even if I mute my receiver, the noise still continues until I turn off my receiver. Its very random too. Sometimes it lasts just a few second and goes away, sometimes I'll just turn my receiver off & then back on after a few seconds and its gone. Then, there are those days it just squeals all day long, no matter what I do. Please help, I tried everything from resetting, to powering off & unplugging for an hour, to changing my cables.

I should also add that the squeal happens on all channels.

Is this squealing noise coming from the unit itself(please turn the volume down when trying this), or through the speakers?. If it's coming through the speakers, please tell me which channels.

  • Audio Service Clinic Feb 01, 2015

Pardon my negativity, but this unit is between 10 and 15 years old. I seriously doubt you will find anyone at Motorola that even remembers this unit.

Thanks you so much for responding! So, if I can find the dry joint(s), can I just re-solder to fix the problem?

Bose cinemate speaker system suddenly gets very loud why?

If the unit is around 5-6 years old or less, you have a bad Rotary Encoder. It is an input to the microprocessor IC(a computer within your Bose). If you would like to inquire about repairing your Bose, please visit me at my website, audioserviceclinic.com. You may contact me directly from the site.

Check the alternator belt tension as well as connections that are to the alternator. The "squealing sounds" mean usually stretched or extremely worn or a loose alternator belt. I hope this helps....Steve

I don't think its the CPS, but I do know that WD40 will make a squealing belt even worse. If you havnt replaced the belt yet, I would do that.

Let us know if that helps.

Subwoofer hum -MTX12" connected to a Aiwa Surround sound. No problems first 10 months, then suddenly all the subwoofer will do is humm loudly and not play music. Changed cables, no change, changed where it...

I assume this is an active sub. The amplifier has most likely failed. You have proved the signal source is not the problem, well almost if you can sucessfully connect the aiwa sub to another amp then we will know for sure. Usually amplifiers fail with an output device short circuit. The hum you here is the power supply direct on the speaker, I would not leave it on for long or speaker damage may ensue.

Problem with Toshiba DLP Projection TV Model #52HM84

It is possible the lamps may be defective or that they may be the wrong replacement for this model, as it may have a different wattage setup with the ballast. If you want to try to order the TB25 lamp from a different vendor, you can order the original Toshiba replacement lamp for this model (52HM84) from a major Toshiba parts distributor at the link below:

Noisy when spinning

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

When you say "noise like a bearing" do you mean a shreeking/squealing sound? What is more common on that model than a bearing is the water pump will wear out and emit a LOUD "shreeeeeeeeeeek" sound.
If you look under the control panel on your IWL12 there should be a "tech sheet" that will tell you how to put the machine in "diagnostic mode". (I'm 99% sure on that model you hold down the water temperature DOWN button while pressing the power button and it will go into diagnostics) Run the water pump in diagnostics mode and that will tell you if it's the pump making the noise, as the pump can be run by itself in diagnostic mode.
If it turns out to be the pump it is a part number 430235P and you can order one here:

http://fisherpaykelparts.net/index.php?categoryid=111&productid=3

That site also has service manuals for that model.
Good luck and I hope this is helpful to you.

LOUD SQUEALING NOISE

Most likely the rear drum bearing is worn. There's a "ball and socket" arrangement that supports the drum at the rear and a repair kit for it. Part #5303281153. Should run around $25.fe7bd93.jpg
