HP fax products are designed so that other telephone equipment can be connected on the same line as the fax. The unit must be connected first using a two-conductor fax/phone cable like the one that shipped with the HP product. Using a four-conductor telephone cable may cause problems receiving faxes or calls.

There are two different types of phone cables. There are two-conductor phone cables like what originally shipped with the HP fax product and there are four-conductor cables. HP fax products are designed to work with a two-conductor phone cable. Look at the end of the cable and verify that it has only two copper leads or wires. Replace any four-conductor cables with a two-conductor cable. Only two-conductor phone cables should be used to connect the all-in-one to the phone line.

Step one: Connect the phone line to the fax
The fax will have two or three sockets (or jacks) for phone lines. Some of these may have a removable plastic plug in them. These sockets will be labeled with text, To Wall Jack , or with a graphic of the wall jack. See Figure 1 below.

Plug the two-conductor telephone cable that came with the HP product into the telephone wall jack. Then, plug it into this socket as shown below.




In areas with above ground telephone lines and electrical storms (lightning), it is a good idea to purchase a telephone line surge suppressor and connect it between the telephone wall jack and the fax. This will help prevent damage to the fax from a lightning-caused power surge on the phone line.

Step two: Add other phone-line devices
To connect other telephone devices, use the other socket (or sockets) on the fax. These are identified by text or with a graphic of a telephone and/or computer.

Connect a caller ID unit between the fax and the telephone.
Use the information below that matches the devices you need to connect.

Fax and telephone
Connect a single-line telephone to one of the added sockets on the fax. The telephone will share the same phone line as the fax. See the illustration below.




Fax, answering machine, and telephone
When a telephone answering machine and telephone are connected, connect the answering machine to the fax and then connect the telephone to the answering machine as shown below.




Fax and computer modem
To use a fax and a computer modem on the same phone line, connect the fax to the computer modem. The modem socket on the computer may be labeled Line or Wall jack .

To use a computer modem and a telephone with the fax, connect the computer modem to the fax. Then, connect the telephone into the second phone line connector on the computer modem or the third fax socket (if it is available). Do you have phone service with Charter as well? If so the modem you have been provided is made to run both the phone service and the internet. If you purchased your own modem from best buy the phone portion would not be present so that is why those connections are not on the new one.

To cut to the point the new modem will work just fine for you internet but bear in mind it will now require another splitter for the coax cable line and each time that you add a splitter you will loose a portion of the incoming signal and this may affect your services.

not all modem setup are all the same. However, you should see an Ethernet port, a power cord port, and a phone cable port at the back of the modem.

You connect the modem to the computer using the ethernet port (biggest port), then connect the modem to the phone line via the phone line port and power cord to power.

You probably have a modem that comes with you phone for voip. That's what you'll plug into the router and your phone into the phone modem

FIrst of all, you don't change the line from the pedestal to the trailer. It's not your cable and it doesn't matter. Dial tone comes in on that cable and it works just fine. It's also the feed to your DSL modem, based on high frequency and not data.

If you're trying to feed different dial tone to 4 phone jacks, you need to find a way to unsplice the cables. In truth, all you have to do is find the main feed from outside, wire it to the DSL modem, and backfeed the 3 other cables with the dial tone from the Vonage or whatever ATA. This backfeed will run on any cable and does not need to be Cat 5e.

If you're trying to run network cables, then you need to run a new cable and connect it to a router or switch at some central location. Those cables need to be 5e.

Hello, I regret to inform you that you cannot connect a phone line directly into an ethernet port. The phone line is an analog signal and requires a modem to convert it to a digital signal the computer can understand.

A cable-modem connects with a coax-cable to the cable-company's network, but a DSL-modem connects with telephone-cable to the telephone-company's network.

Your modem should have a RJ11 (phone) jack and a RJ45 (ethernet) jack. Phone line-in to modem RJ11. Ethernet cable from RJ45 to modem to router; maybe labeled WAN or modem port . Ethernet from any of the switch ports (or the only one avail, depending on your model) to you pc if it has a ethernet card in it. After that it's all up to the configuration.
