Sounds like the shutter control is not active. If closed, the shutter will not allow light to enter and thus you have a black receptor. Take to a camera shop for testing.

SOURCE: Lens problems... kind of

HEY, I REALLY LIKED YOUR PRESENTATION OF YOUR PROBLEM! VERY WELL DONE! I'M GOING TO OFFER A SOLUTION THAT I THINK WILL SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM. I THINK YOU NEED TO GO ONLINE TO TO THE CANON WEBSITE AND DOWNLOAD THE LATEST FIRMWARE FOR THE SD750 OR AT LEAST DOWNLOAD A FRESH VERSION, THEN CONNECT YOUR CAMERA TO THE COMPUTER AND SYNCRO THE TWO AND SEE IF THIS DOESN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THAT WHAT HAS HAPPENED IS THAT THE FIRMWARE HAS BEEN CORRUPTED SOMEHOW AND YOUR CAMERA IS GETTING CONFUSED SIGNALS. RESETTING IT TO FACTORY DEFAULT FIRMWARE SHOULD SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. IF IT DOESN'T THEN I THINK THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF A MECHANICAL PROBLEM, BUT RIGHT NOW I FEEL IT IS A FIRMWARE PROBLEM. TRY THIS AND SEE IF THIS DOESN'T WORK.OK? REPLY TO:ARCLIGHT1217--GOOD LUCK!

If its a year, request that canon fix it free of charge under its warrenty.

Charge the battery, and or buy a new battery to see if its fixed. Bestbuy if there is one close to you is the first place I look for a battery.

SOURCE: Try and fit Canon EFS Lens to EOS 5D Body

As far as I know, you should use L series Lens to fit Full Frame Canon Camera (5D & 1D).

That would be no adapter, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Testimonial: "Many thanks. That was very helpfull. Regards IH"

Have a Canon 5d mark 2 . Was using it today all worked ok. Then it suddenly wouldn't review photos or bring up the menu . It shows black screen but when turned off it says the normal sensor cleaning

Hi Dear!
According to your problem note said wouldn't review photo or bring up the menu. You have to check all taken picture if there is blank, black, or corrupted picture file(cause won't able to see the image) are come from mirror box sequence control unit failing. At the beginning of this problem can not be noticeable, later it causes more and more blank image come out. However, if you don't have any blank image, then a loosen screw piece running around and touch circuitry in side could be serious. These two symptom are common and manufacturer's engineer design defect, but they won't tell you. Other then that you have no problem on your camera like last statement "when turned off it says sensor cleaning" This is camera's default setting that whenever you turn off camera will clean off sensor by itself.
Hope You Luck! A Professional Camera Clinic Guy!

Sometime there is defective main picture control process! But Canon won't say about it! At least you can try to convince them. (I want you shoot continuous a lot and video shooting) If it happen, then your main process board defect!

This is not a problem: the LCD monitor cannot be used as viewfinder for shooting as with digital compact camera's or non-professional DSLR's.
This info can be found in the manual on p. 36.

Unfortunately the 5D (original) doesn't have live-view - which allows you to see the picture before you take it. It doesn't have video either but I guess you already knew that.

No image appearing after shot only black screen

Make sure you set it to "auto-review" and that the time is long enought to look at it. Pressing the shutter release will skip the image review and keep the LCD in shooting mode.

Can get LCD screen to turn on On Canon EOS 350D, working when reviewing photos!

If the LCD works when reviewing photos, then it appears the LCD is working. Can you see the menu when you press the MENU button?

If you're expecting to be able to use the LCD to compose your pictures, you're not going to with this camera. The LiveView ability is a relatively recent development in DSLRS, the 350D works as SLRs have worked for half a century, requiring you to use the viewfinder to compose your pictures.

Similar problems as other readers. camera turns on but no real time image on LCD screen. LCD contiues to show settings i.e. full auto mode etc. But I can view pictures already taken. Thanks

The XTi and prior EOS models have not capability to see the live image to be shoot on the screen. Only the image after taken can see on the screen. Other images also using the view mode.

If you can't review the images, eve if the display is turned off, just after they are taken, maybe the "Review time" is set to "off". Go to settings, 3th tab, Review time and set the desired setting.

Review button

If by review you want to look at the photos you have already taken on the rear LCD screen then use the small triangular play button which is the bottom one on the left handside on the back of the Camera. To get out of review mode press the same button again.
Sadly there is no where on the digital SLRs to get the date of manufacture.

LCD display isn't on

In order to turn on Live View, first put the camera in one of the Creative Zone modes (i.e. P, Tv, Av, M or A-DEP). Then press the menu button, and scroll to the second settings menu (the second wrench-symbol), then scroll down to "Live View function settings" and press the SET-button. Then scroll to "Live view shoot", press SET, scroll to "Enable", and press set again. Close the menu by pressing the menu button twice.
Now you can turn on and off the live view on the LCD by pressing the SET-button.

LCD Screen does not work properly

Your camera works just like a film camera SLR,. You use the eyepiece to frame and focus your picture. The LCD screen is for reviewing pictures taken or menu operations. You cannot preview a shot on screen before it is taken with the camera.
