Sounds like the shutter control is not active. If closed, the shutter will not allow light to enter and thus you have a black receptor. Take to a camera shop for testing.

HEY, I REALLY LIKED YOUR PRESENTATION OF YOUR PROBLEM! VERY WELL DONE! I'M GOING TO OFFER A SOLUTION THAT I THINK WILL SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM. I THINK YOU NEED TO GO ONLINE TO TO THE CANON WEBSITE AND DOWNLOAD THE LATEST FIRMWARE FOR THE SD750 OR AT LEAST DOWNLOAD A FRESH VERSION, THEN CONNECT YOUR CAMERA TO THE COMPUTER AND SYNCRO THE TWO AND SEE IF THIS DOESN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THAT WHAT HAS HAPPENED IS THAT THE FIRMWARE HAS BEEN CORRUPTED SOMEHOW AND YOUR CAMERA IS GETTING CONFUSED SIGNALS. RESETTING IT TO FACTORY DEFAULT FIRMWARE SHOULD SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. If its a year, request that canon fix it free of charge under its warrenty.
Charge the battery, and or buy a new battery to see if its fixed. Bestbuy if there is one close to you is the first place I look for a battery.

As far as I know, you should use L series Lens to fit Full Frame Canon Camera (5D & 1D).
That would be no adapter, but please correct me if I'm wrong.
