Sorry no. Unless the old phono preamp built into that, Which is a new thing just started in the last few years with new turntables. Old ones need a phono preamp with RIAA curves built in and GAIN as the cartridges are very low output.

There are several analog inputs. I'd choose the one that that says 'VCR (iPod'). With the preamp, any analog input should work. The preamp is basically needed for inverse RIAA equalization. LPs are equalized in order to keep the record grooves smaller, for longer playing time, Bass frequencies are reduced and treble increased, so they need an inverse filter, which the preamp supplies, as well as providing a signal level more suitable for the receiver input. Yes - you need a RIAA preamp which equalises and amplifies the signal as it had to be encoded for the vinyl recording.

When I hook up my turntable to phono channel on my technical sadx950 i can barely hear it, and crackles. If I hook up to CD channel, it works. my turntable has built in preamp. Is phono channel dead?

You have to connect your turntable to a line-in input. The phono input is only for turntables without a built in preamp.

If only , a RIAA preamp is included in it.

Denon pma 250SE phono problem

Denon PMA 250SE does not have a RIAA phono preamp.

Note: Choose a better quality regulated power supply,

for these preamps.

Although an updated turntable with USB can be used

without the need of such RIAA phono preamp.

It always helps when a connection question is asked that you identify all parts of the scenario explicitly.

Depends on whether or not the turntable has an internal PHONO preamp. If it does you can connect it to ANY analog input. Otherwise, you need to get a PHONO Preamp to place between the TT and the HTR.

"PHONO" is the only designated connection on an audio device that is literal and exclusive. Nothing but PHONO will work right on it and old-school turntables would require it to preamplify and frequency-correct the tiny current produced by a Phono cartridge. Look up RIAA equalization.

I have a Sony direct drive PS-X5 turntable. I have to turn the amp up all the way to hear any sound.

If you're not connecting the TT to a PHONO preamp or a receiver with a built-in PHONO connection the signal from it will be too weak to get any meaningful volume PLUS the RIAA equalization curve required for flat phono playback won't be applied so it will sound very 'tinny'.

Google it.

Get electronics that can handle old-school turntables.

Hi, sounds to me like you have got it connected to your amp via an aux or cd input. Turntables need to be connected via phono input. If no phono input is available you need to run it through a mixer or preamp first then into your amp. I recommend you get a good quality preamp with RIAA EQ curve included. I have designed and built our own Styluscity branded preamp. There are cheaper options on the market however when it comes to audio products quality is very much relevant to cost. Cheers john. How do I connect a turntable

I agree with 'radio head.'
Turntables require a particular frequency response and the input needs to be correctly equalised to accommodate this. If your amp had phono inputs these would be equalised internally.

Unfortunately, many modern amps no longer have phono inputs. There are two possibly three options.
1) You could obtain a turntable that includes built in Phono eq
2) As 'radio head' says, you can obtain in line active equalisers. These are called RIAA Equalisers (Equalizers if you're in the US) or RIAA preamps. This allows you to plug your turntable into a small box, then plug the box into one of the audio inputs on the back of your amp.
3) You may be able to adjust your mixer to the required frequency response and use it as a preamp.

What you cannot do, regrettably, is just plug your turntable into an ordinary audio input. It will not do any harm if you want to try it and it will make a noise, but you won't like it!

Just plug the turntable into your phone inputs. If there is next to no volume then you need a preamp because you have a magnetic (low output) cartridge. If you have a piezo type cartridge the output should be enough to drive the amplifier to rated output. Of your unit does not have a phono input I can tell you that it definitely does not have a preamp built in.

I'll just do one -- all PHONO inputs acceot magnetic cartridges ... and have for 60 years. No PHONO input has accepted a piezo cartridge since 1960. If for some reason you have a piezo cartridge (though no one has made them for decades. plug it into a LINE jack.

Yes. You need a phono pre-amp connected to one of your line-level inputs.

Whoops! Though teh manufacturer itself does not list a PHONO input as a feature, I saw it listed on a review. So you do not need a separate pre-amp.
