2002 dodge stratus rt 3.0 3rd gear limp mode

Stuck in 3rd gear limp mode after 1 minute of driving. Also speed gauge shows that im going 20-30 mph faster than i am. For example at 60 MPH it shows i'm going 90 MPH :) Code p0401 (EGR valve issue aka exhaust gas recirculation valve issue) I don't think that could be the problem. Then I have p0736, p0733, p0732, p0734 (they all say gear 1,2,3,4 and reverse are incorrect), I'm think replace the speed sensors on the top of transmission, if that doesn't fix it, then the shift solenoid which is called control solenoid for this particular vehicle. Any helpful thoughts anyone?

Don't you think it is strange that you have so many gear shift codes? I think that the neutral safety switch is defective. Don't ignore the EGR issue. Just as fuel pressure and exhaust back pressure can affect engine performance, so can the EGR valve. Please write back with any additional information or symptoms, and I'll do my best to help you, good luck.

Testimonial: "thanks, ya its a 4 speed. They could all trigger because the speed sensors are off by 20-30MPH. I ordered the speed sensors, I'll let you know if that fixes anything. If not I'll get the EGR solenoid and valve, but those cost as much as the control solenoid (shift solenoid)."

I've been thinking more about your situation and I know that you already bought the input and output speed sensors. If this repair does not solve your problem take a look at your trani fluid level and the last time it was serviced. The fact that the failure is affecting all the forward and reverse gears. In one hand I can agree with you but in the other hand. The symptoms are that all the gears are being affected. The consistancies make me feel like what ever has failed is something that will affect all the gears. Speed sensor/s, trani fluid (level, flow, temp., and condition), clogged air and fuel filter, restriction inside the exhaust (blockage inside CAT.), change in air/fuel ratio, or damage to the PCM. As always, good luck and "YES" please write back with your progress and any new questions that you may have.

well put in the speed sensors with no avail except now the only code I have is speed sensor is bad. and I can manually down shift, instead of being stuck in 3rd but now the speedometer doesn't work at all either and its still in limp mode and wont go into 4th gear

the transmission fluid smells spent and I'm thinking about changing it but If I may have to put another transmission in, I might as well wait. any ideas if spent fluid will make it go into limp mode?

My 2001 dodge stratus 3.0 dohc will not shift from first gear to drive it's like stuck n first gear any solutions?

Check your Auto transmission Fluid level if Auto transmission. for both, have shop check linkage and bushings. Rubber bushings wear out

My 1997 Dodge Stratus is stuck in limp mode, second gear forward or reverse. It doesn't have a speedometer display or the tachometer most of the time. I replaced the output speed sensor and the Tr

Its not likely the transmission is causing the problem if both the speedo and tach are out. The tach does not involve the transmission.
Sounds more like a problem with the instrument cluster or the body computer.
You may have to get a used shop manual to get the wiring diagrams and testing procedures.

2002 dodge stratus temperature gauge is fluctuating

its possible that you have a head gasket starting to go bad and driving it at a higher speed the engine gets hotter and can force combustion chamber gasses into the cooling system causing a higher temp showing up on the gauge.you can get a block test down that hopefully show it up depending how early in the stage the gasket has deteriated.sound this as a diagnostic sign back in the early 80`s.

My dodge caravan 3.3L shows 5 malfunction codes what do they mean po455 po846 po500 po700 po732

P0455 = Evap leak monitor large leak detected.
This code usually means the gas cap may have been loose or needs the rubber gasket.

P0500 = No vehicle speed sensor signal.
Vehicle speed sensor is located on the transmission near one of the axle shafts (it may need replacing).

P0700 = EATX controller DTC present.
This simply means you have transmission related codes.

P0732 = Gear ratio error in 2nd gear.
This code is of some concern, it means the transmission is slipping in 2nd gear. However the trans may be in limp mode due to the speed sensor code (limp mode means the trans starts out in second gear in order to at least get to a mechanic). The first thing I would do is have these codes cleared as there may be absolutely nothing wrong with the transmission (especially if you pull the trans dip stick and the fluid does not have a burnt smell. The vehicle should drive normally after that. If the check engine light comes back, have the codes scanned ASAP (before any other unrelated code sets). Chances are it may be the output speed sensor if this happens (easy fix). Hope this helps

Would like to know what the process is to reset the TCM on a 2002 dodge grand caravan, the van while driving it stays stuck in 2nd gear was told that the TCM needs to be rest i need th precdure how to rest...

if its stay in second speed the computer put the tramission in limp mode because there a problem in the trasmission you need to get your van pass on a scanner to see the code it could simply be the input or output sensor there sensor on the transmission and to reset that simply disconnect the battery for 2 minute after you see your trams will change all speed let me no and thanks for using fixya

I was driving today with my cruise control on. the engine revved up to over 4500rpms and then slowed down to under 2000rpms. the car will drive, but it will not go above 1-15 mph.

is check engine light on, if etac sees trans problem wiil put trans into limp home mode and go into 2nd gear, sometimes when trans cold may work ok,will have to get trans computer scanned to see if input and output speed sensors are ok
