Proctor silex hand mixer, brand new, just out of box, worked fine for quick on/off test, and then...NOTHING. Wont turn on?? Store is closed until tomorrow, I NEED it for what hv to cook tonight!!

Are the beaters installed? some of the newer ones require the beaters to be inserted fully. Try unplugging from the wall then remove and re-insert the beaters. Then plug it back in and try it.

If not, it might be the motor. These are very inexpensive($12 on amazon) and are known for problems. I would plan on buying another and returning this one if the beater thing doesnt work.

I didn't receive the sausage attachment

Good morning Deborah.

The route to satisfaction will depend on the circumstance of expecting the sausage attachment. If the Mixer was supposed to have the attachment included in the same box, your best bet is to call the manufacturer help line and just say you have a missing part. Get the UPC/bar code from the box, and be ready to quote back any printing on the box like 'Includes Rock Crusher, Turnip Turner, and Sausage Attachments'. It's not all that uncommon for boxes to be mis-packed, especially if it's being done by new-hires brought on in anticipation of holiday sales volumes. Most manufacturers will be pretty cooperative in getting missing parts sent to you.

If the sausage attachment is a separate item, say included as a special deal of 'buy the mixer, get your choice of sausage maker, cheese grater, or kitchen fan attachment' and this was shipped to you, it's pretty likely that the accessory part was shipped separately, and possibly not even from the same place. Call the vendor you bought from, tell them the situation, and ask them to confirm shipping. Sometimes, a special may generate more enthusiasm than expected, so the answer might be 'um, we sold out on the sausage maker, it'll ship in 2 to 3 weeks. Some places will be proactive in contacting you about this sort of thing, others will 'notify' you by changing the response to tracking inquiries from 'shipped 2 days ago' to 'backordered'. If you bother to check.

I recommend calling over e-mailing, if possible. Make sure you ask the name, or employee number, of anyone you talk to, so that you have a record of names, responses, and such in the event you need to escalate up through supervisors or managers.

Good Luck!

When under a load (such as bread dough) my locking latch will not stay locked. How can I adjust the latch or repair the problem?

Well I afraid that you will not like the answer. The locking latch on a tilt head mixer can only be fixed replaced or repaired by taking the motor head apart. The bottom from the top.

1 remove mixer from stand
2 remove silver drip ring
3 remove rear end cap
4 remove locking pin in the planetary
5 remove planetary
6 remove nine screws in bottom of mixer
7 separate top from bottom of motor head
8 do not tear gasket or you will have to replace it (buy on line)
9 inspect locking latch and tighten or replace as needed
10 check gear grease and replace if all hard or all runny
11 reassemble

Sorry this is not an easy fix but it is do-able. You will need throw away rags a nice flat work space and some patience. I f you have never done a mechanical fix to anything it should take you about two hours, if however you are mechanically inclined and not afraid to tackle new projects should take you about forty-five minutes. let us know if we can help you.

Kenwood KM300. How to fit new mains cable ?

Having done it the hard way (!) it is dead easy. All you need is a small screwdriver or similar, approx 2mm by 1mm in cross section. Looking from outside the mixer, where the power lead enters the main body, between the rectangular lead casing and the socket it enters, there is a small rectangular cutout (top right). Push your screwdriver in around 15mm, and then withdraw the lead housing with it - the screwdriver pushes the latch aside, hence you need to remove both as one! With luck, and a wiggle or two, that should be it.

My mixer will not lock in the down position - is not affected by height of beater

Hello Wittwer,

I understand that you are having a problem with your head locking in the down position. This is a common problem when the set screw that holds the latch in place is missing. On the right side of the base up next to where the lock is you will notice a whole that has threads make sure that the set screw is there if not you will need to order a new one. Here is a link to sears parts direct where you can purchase a new set screw they cost $4.62.
