SOURCE: Synaptics touchpad not working properly

Hmm give this method a try. Turn off computer remove AC power adapter. Remove the battery and press the power button for 30 seconds continuously. This removes the static from the system. This process is called as Power drain. This works in most of the cases. Good Luck !!!

SOURCE: Acer laptop problem: Hard disk/motherboard problem

Try 2 things....1) replace the IDE controller cord or the SATA cord whichever applies. If this doesn't fix the prob try downloading latest mobo updates as well as any Acer updates for your specific model. Let me know if any of this works.

Thx

Have you checked the settings of your synaptics? Usually there's an Icon on the taskbar for synaptics you can right click it and check if "disable touchpad if usb pointing device is present" is checked, if so uncheck it then your touch pad should work again.
Here's a link for a step by step instruction though this is for windows xp but steps are the same. Hope this works for you:

Describe your dv7-1245dx touchpad windows 7 Problem: The touchpad scrolling feature does not work. All other functions of the laptop are fine.

For the full capabilities of the touchpad, you will need the Synaptics touchpad software and drivers. Look for your operating system here and download and install the Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad Driver under Keyboard and other input devices.

3. Click on Device Settings -> Settings button. This will display the Properties for Synaptics TouchPad on PS/2 port.

4. Follow the steps below to enable the Tapping Feature :

Highlight Tapping in the Left hand side , and Check the Enable tapping in the Right hand box .

5. Follow the steps below to enable Scroll feature:

Highlight Virtual Scrolling in the Left hand side and Check both the boxes in the right hand side.

I cannot get my mousepad to scroll

I am assuming here that all the functions of your touchpad are working correctly, and all you can't do is scroll.

Often times the Synaptics controler, which is the controler and the driver for the touchpad, will get corrupted, de-activated or will just stop working. The easiest thing to try would be to download the synaptics drivers from the support section of you computer manufacturer's website, then go to your control panel, select add and remove programs, find Synaptics in the list and uninstall it. Then you can go ahead and install the drivers you just downloaded. This usually fix the problem 80% of the time. If you provide your computer maker and model I can even send a link to download the drivers.

Toshiba a300 synaptic touch pad scroller stopped working

Hi there.
The touchpad drivers could be corrupt, try reinstalling the touchpad drivers again.
Go here to Toshiba Support fill in the details of your model laptop and download the synaptics touchpad driver and reinstall it, see if that helps.

Can't "tap" on my Dell touchpad

I had the same problem after purchasing an HP laptop with a Synaptics TouchPad. After using a wireless mouse for awhile, the TouchPad stopped working. The TouchPad light was white, indicating it was enabled. No TouchPad devices was listed anymore in the Mouse Properties in the Control Panel. I tried reloading the driver but nothing changed.

After shutting down the laptop and removing the battery (according to owner’s manual) it worked again. After turning on the laptop, make sure the TouchPad works. Then go to Control Panel, Mouse, Device Settings tab, and make sure a Synaptics TouchPad is listed in the Devices list and that the Enable button is grayed out.
