Best thing to do is replace the starter rope, if you don't, you're asking for trouble. Get the right length of rope, don't use a longer rope than recommended or you could wrap the spring too tight when you start the motor. I always replace the spring too. It's cheaper than trying to wind up the old one and get it back in. Good luck.

How do I replace a pull cord for pm 605 mcculloch chainsaw?

First remove the pull starter housing.
The next part is tricky. You'll have to release and unwind the spring that rewinds the pull starter cord. Remember how you do this because after replacing the cord, you'll have to rewind the cord and spring before inserting it back in the housing.
re-attach the pull cord housing to the chain saw.
Hope this helps.

Pull line broke.

Remove the starter housing from the engine, then unwind the rest of the cord from the reel. With both parts of the cord, measure the total length of cord plus some extra for knots. Take one of the remnants with you to a saw service shop for replacement cord purchase. You might even take the entire starter mechanism and have them rewind the cord for you if you don't feel comfortable about installing the new cord. When done, just reinstall the starter on the saw and attempt a start. Good luck!

Pull cord broke on my craftsman gas push edger. I replaced cord but when I pull cord..It wont rewind but I can hear it trying to start

It sounds like you did not properly rewind the spring that is behind the spool that the cord would around, that spring is what rewinds the cord after pulling the cord.

Starter cord won't rewind

The starter cord is spring loaded. When the spring breaks your cord won't rewind. Usually the whole starter cord assembly is easily replaced and readily available at your local gardening goods retailer. They might even install it for you for a nominal fee. I hope you find this solution helpful. Please rate it and thanks for using Fixya.

How to you re tension the starter spring

What has to be done is the BLOWER Housing must be removed from the engine. Then pull the rope all the way out, NOTE which way it is turning. Then stick a screw driver thru the spokes on the wheel and straight thru the housing, this will keep the rewinder from rewinding.
Then cut the knot from the cord. Remove the cord. Engage the rewinder wheel with your fingers pull the screwdriver and wind the spring as tight as you can. Re-install the screw driver thru the wheel so it can not rewind and reinstall the cord. When tying the knot ,make sure to use a light to melt the cord a little so the knot will not untie.
Hold the handle tight and pull the screwdriver and slowly let the spring wind in the cord.

The rope broke on my lawn mower and I am trying to rewind the spring, but was advised to buy a complete starter assembly, I need to know how much one is and where can I get one. I bought my lawn mower from...

If your rope broke, there was no reason to take the spring out. The rope can be replaced just by taking the rewind housing off, turning pulley to get rest of old rope out, wind the pulley (and spring) the direction the rope would be pull it when starting. Then , when it's wound tight, back off to align the holes in pulley and cover. Hold it there, stick about an 8' piece of rope from the outside through the pulley and tie a knot. Hold the rope and let the spring pull the rope back into the starter. an tie handle back. Take your housing, and spring to a shop. They can re-install the spring and put on a rope a heck of a lot cheaper that buying that whole assembly.

Strimmer Starter strip

You will need to take the housing off to expose the rewind mechanism. The most likely cause will be a broken rewind spring. Go on the WEB and search for your model and a part list. Locate the spring and order it. Once you install the spring, you will need to pre-tension the spring by by pulling the cord part way out and ciol it on the spool. Good luck
