SOURCE: drivers/software for Umax Astra 3400 scanner
The makers of Umax scanners should write a download software to be available at sites like www.fixya.com. Not just for Windows 98, Me, and Xp but also for Vista. I have recently upgraded to Windows Vista. Now I can't use my scanner.

Have found information on umax.com !
Solution is VistaScan X CD only for Windows XP, when you use it withaout Internet-Connection (local)
http://www.umax.com/vistascan-x-cd/
Or: VueScan also for Windows 10

But you've some costs...

"From which sources can i download from" ... FREE ones of course, ALWAYS. Believe me, fee based offerings are out there. Never get sucked into paying for drivers (or the download "services") for ANY device.
That said, you should find what you're looking for here:
FOR MACINTOSH:
http://www.umax.com/download/index.jsp?model=Copy+Utility&opsys=Mac+OS
FOR WINDOWS:
http://www.downloadatoz.com/driver/item_270832.html
Choose the one that matches your Windows OS (operating system).
TIP: You should also download the "Windows All" version as a backup alternative in the event the specific OS version is problematic in any way.

As UMAX no longer seem to support OSX for this version you could try Vuescan at http://www.hamrick.com/ the scanner is listed on their supported scanners and there is a free trail version available I hope this helps
