I've been trying for an entire hour to get my linksys router installed and working. I went to the suggested IP address (192.168.1.1), and got the box asking for my username and password. As advised I left the username blank and inserted admin as the password. Nothin'. Box just reappears asking me for a username and password. WHY isn't this simpler? It SHOULD be as straightforward as connecting the cables and plugging it in. I can't tell whether the problem is Linksys or Vista, but it's powerfully annoying. Yeah, I can disconnect the router from the desktop and get to the internet -- but the whole point was to be able to connect the laptop too. And you wanna know the really bizarre part? As I type, I'm getting to the internet through the router. How can get past that Error 323 to connect my laptop? Help?
If admin password is not working, it might have been changed to something else. Try to type any password that you can think of. If none works, you need to reset the router by pressing the reset button at the back of it for 30 seconds, then unplug the power for 30 seconds, plug it back in then try to access the 192.168.1.1 page again, that should do it for admin as the password, no username.
What browser are you using? Sometimes firefox will hang up. in the address line of your browser type 192.168.1.1 when that window pops up make sure your cap locks is not on. Linksys has had a few different default username and passwords over the years. If you never changed any of that and its still default try admin and password or Admin and password. admin and admin and finally leave the username blank and try password.if that didnt work try admin. Is the Desktop wireless as well or cable? if it both are wireless try hooking to it with a cable. Sometimes the wireless in the old days would be set with the amount of users set to 1 or 0 just have to bump that up. if all else if all else fails hit the factory reset button and start over. good luck
