Red/yellow line down left side of document when using feeder

When I use the document feeder to copy or scan, there is a line down the left side of the document. I have tried to clean the rollers as instructed in the document feeder, but this does not correct the problem. I have to place the document on the glass to scan or copy to avoid this line that appears. I noticed that there are 2 additional rollers that propell the document from the feeder to the output station, but they do not roll unless a document is fed through the rollers. I really appreciate any help you can give me since I am the company's administrative assistant and am expected to solve these glitches. Liz

The solution to this issue is cleaning the scanner glass below the automatic document feeder(mind you its not the scan bed that you normally use while copying) .you will get the ADF scnner glass once you lift the ADF door, you will see a 1 inch wide scanner glass.that is what you need to clean.

When scanning a red line appears on my scnned copy and runs throught the document

lift the top as if I were going to scan or copy something. I checked the glass. On the far left is a separate glass area. This is what the feeder uses to actually copy or scan a document. This had a smudge on it. I cleaned the glass and it was fixed.

When I copy papers on my Canon imageRunner 2800 there are 2black lines in the middle of the copied paper. How do i solve this problem?

Hello mike,
You may have a fairly easy problem to fix, and that's good thing ! If the lines only appear when you use the document feeder then we can handle this. Please place a document on the platen glass and make a copy. If the copy looks good then we need to clean your "scan" glass. The scan glass is the small glass located to the left of the large platen glass. It's about 3/4" by 14",and will only cause problems when you use the automatic doc feeder. If it gets dirty then thin lines will show up. If indeed this is the problem then I have a test u can use that will help you Take a plain piece of paper. Mentally divide it into 4 squares and then simply write the numbers 1,2,3,4 on each quadrant. At the top edge of your newly formed test document place an arrow pointing away from the body of the paper, and it needs to point "UP".. Now draw an arrow on the test document that points to the left "lead " edge. Put your newly constructed test target in the document feeder and make a copy of it. Now, you KNOW how you placed the test document, so lets look at the copy. If you have lines only thru the document feeder, then look at the copy you made and notice where the lines are. Ok, now you know where the lines show up on the copy, so lets take your "test" document and compare them side by side.Once you have made this comparison, and can see where the lines show up, take the ORIGINAL test document and place it IMAGE UP (1,2,3,4) on the glass. This will point out exactly where the dirt is. By looking at the copy that has lines, and where they show up on the page, you can use the test page that is laying face up on the glass and compare the 2. BOOM !! You can look towards the small scan glass and find the dirt that is causing the lines. With your copier, IF you place a document on the glass then the scanner moves to "scan" the document. But if you use the document feeder, the scanner stays in one spot and the motion of the document moving ACROSS the scanner and is scanned like a bar code. If there is dirt on the scan glass then a line occurs instead of a "blob" as you would see if you used the platen glass.I hope this all makes sense (I tend to ramble) and I hope it helps you. You of course could have far more complex problems. But your description of the problem sounded like my remedy/idea might be just what you need. Take care and good luck. if I helped you please let "fixya" know. SPINAL

We have a black line down the center of all copies...

If the problem only happens on copies or sent faxes then no it is not your drum. There is something on your scan glass. My guess is you are getting the line on your copies when you run the original through the document feeder. If you get lines through the document feeder but not on copies made off the glass then it is a dirty scan glass. There is a thin glass strip where the document feeder feeds the original. Usually something like white out that did not dry smears off an original and ends up on this thin strip of glass. Scratch it off with your finger nail and use some glass cleaner to resolve the problem. The scan glass is about 1/2 an inch to an inch wide and will be on the same side of the machine that the copier feeds the originals in on

Blank line down left side of outgoing fax or feeder copy

The most common cause of blank (void) lines on a scanned document is from whiteout on the glass where the page is scanned when using the document feeder.
If there is a clear mylar sheet on the bottom of the document feeder, the whiteout may be there instead.

If there was dirt or a dark smudge on the glass (or mylar), it would show up as a black line, but whiteout is white, and shows up as a void (blank) line.

Vertical black line in scan document not in copies through document feeder

Lift the lid and to the left of the main glass is a smaller glass; that is what scans during the feeding process. Make sure that it is completely clean; even a speck of dust can cause a line to appear. I took a lens wipe and cleaned mine and my line was gone.

Line when coping from document feeder

If you lift the document feeder, you will see a narrow piece of glass on the left side. Originals are scanned across this when the feeder is used, so a small speck of dirt becomes a line when copying. clean the glass, and it should be good to go.

Canon D860 - I get a solid black line when I use paper feeder.

I'm pretty sure you might have solved this problem already, but this might help others.

Make sure that the platen glass is clean near the right side of the machine, where the document is scanned when going through the document scanner. Remember, when placing a document on the glass to copy it that way, you would place it on the glass on the left side of the machine. When scanning through the ADF, the scanning unit itself moves to the right side of glass and scans the document as it moves through.

We had the same issue and found out that there was a little spec of dirt on the glass. After cleaning it, the problem was solved.

I would type it all out but hp has a great little document - complete with pictures!! The issue is that there is something on the small strip of glass that is used for the feeder and needs to be cleaned.
