Try to put your operating system again
SOURCE: laptop stuck at Preparing to Standby
Your Operating System is corrupted.
You need to repair it by performing a repair using your Opareating System (OS) installation CD.
If you are using Windows XP, another alternative would be to install/reinstall service pack 3.
This version fixes errors, but may fail to install if errors wont let it.
In that case you will have to perform a system repair using your OS installation CD.

Pull the battery, and unplug the power. After about 10 minutes, just plug in the power. Leave the battery out. If it is still diagnosing your PC and fixing disk errors, let it run. These newer, larger hard drives take a long time to fix. I've had some take up to 3 hours.
