Can not pick up HD signal without a digital antenna

Channel 19 actually broadcasts on VHF channel 11 (approximately 201MHZ) and channel 25 actually broadcasts on UHF channel 15 (approximately 479MHZ). I know that sounds a bit weird but it has been done so that stations don't have to change there "call" channel number when we switched to Digital TV. Your digital converter box keeps track of this. This is important to understand because you need and antenna that is good at picking up both UHF and VHF signals. If you're not getting channel 19 it may be due to a poor VHF portion of your antenna. If your using a basic old set of rabbit ears for your antenna that has a loop in the middle then I might have a trick for you. Most rabbit ears have 2 telescopic antenna elements. Extend or collapse until each length is 14.7 inches long. (Which is a quarter wavelength at 201MHZ). You are effectively tuning (Optimizing) your antenna specifically for that channel 19. You may need to rotate your antenna a bit to find the best signal.

There are other factors which can hinder you receiving channel 19 but this is a good starting point. Let me know what type of antenna you have. Hope this helps.

Yes. You can use a regular antenna for any flat panel HD TV. You're only limitation the type of antenna and whether or not your flat panel TV has a built in digital tuner. If it does, you'll be able to scan for digital channels without any additional components, including the High Def ones,  though you may not get every channel available with a set of rabbit ears. A roof top antenna will give you a stronger signal and more channels. If your TV does NOT have a built in digital tuner, you'll have to purchase a digital converter box and attach your antenna to it to receive the digital and HD channels. Good luck.

First, make sure your connections are right. The rabbit ears need to be disconnected from the TV and reconnected to the converter box. Then the output cable from the converter box connects to the TV. Then try turning the rabbit ears or re-locating them near a window if the wire is long enough. You should be able to get some signal. A newer indoor antenna may help you pull in some of the weaker stations.

The Dynex LCD-19-09 19in LCD Tv has a digitial tuner in it already. I would recommend doing a channel scan and make sure it is on the "Antenna" setting instead of "Cable" and let it scan for channels. You will see all the analog channels like "7", "12" if they are still broadcasting, however, if you can pick up the digital channels, it will look more like "7-1" or 12-1; 12-2 etc.". To get to this, push the "Menu" button on the Dynex remote, then arrow down twice to TV, then push the right arrow and make sure it is set at Antenna and do a channel scan. Should get you whatever digital channels are available. If the digital antenna is not strong enough, you will need to get the digital one at Wal-Mart as previously suggested and hope that will convert the analog channels in your area.

Your problem is definitely the input signal source to your tv. It is extremely rare where a new tv has a tuner signal sensitivity problem. The best thing to do is to replace your current set of rabbit ears with a different set of powered rabbit ears that have a higher gain rating with a variable gain control. Please note that the gain control setting is critical when setting up your tuner for auto-programming. If the gain control is set too low or too high it will result in your symptom.

If you still can't get it to work you could try buying a line amplifier which you would install to the rabbit ears before the tv. If you still can't get it to work you'll have no choice but to purchase an outside antennae as a result of your being in a weak signal area as signal quality changes by such things as the switch over to digital upcoming and environmental changes.

You mentioned rabbit ears for old tv, how old are the rabbit ears? Time and humidity will make rabbit ears lose connections internally. Also, if your old rabbit ears have the flat cable going to the tv you probably had to add a converter to go to the new tv. The flat cable will lose signal strength were ever the cable touches metal. Also the adapter will cause signal lose. The best bet is to buy an amplified indoor antenna. You also may try a paper clip and about 3to4' of small gauge wire put the paper clip (bend out to fit) into the center of the antenna in on the tv have the wire connected and let it hang or lift it to see how the picture improves. The problem with rabbit ears is that you have to use war time tactics. Crawl on your stomach and adjust to best picture, if you stand and adjust the signal is usually reflected off your body and will be nice until you walk away.

the frequency catcher of the antenna may be weaker then required.to receive the digital channels u can attach a network booster which will solve the problem.

Your TV is old enough to have not only screw terminals for the antenna, but it sounds like it has separate UHF and VHF terminals as well. Pick up a 75-ohm to 300-ohm adapter (available at Radio Shack and probably most other places that sell TV's and antennas). This is a small cylinder-shaped part with a threaded antenna connector on one end, and a flat wire with two terminals on the other end. Connect the cable from the converter box to the round connector, hook the two terminals to the VHF antenna screws on your TV, put the TV on channel 3 and you'll be set.

You should also pick up a new antenna designed to work with digital broadcasting. If you use the old rabbit ears you were using before, you will probably not pick up all the channels available in your area.

Unfortunately, I'm in Australia and not familiar with New York TV transmissions, however, the reception principals are the same.

Your signals are most likely bouncing off walls etc in your apartment with several 'reflections' being picked up by your indoor antenna.

This 'multipath' reception causes errors in the digital signals.

Your receiver can correct a certain amount of errors, but if there are too many, your picture will pixelate and the sound will make loud noises and then you will lose reception altogether.

The fix for this problem is connecting to a roof-mounted antenna and signal distribution system. Most apartment buildings have one, however some only distribute cable channels.

There is a possibility of a fault with your TV, but from what you describe, it sounds like a signal issue.

Have a chat to your building manager and ask what system they use for FTA reception in your building.. perhaps there's a fault that they are not aware of.

Your TV has a built in tuner but NOT a built in antenna. Depending on where you live (distance from broadcasters) you will need to add anywhere from rabbit ears (with the UHF loop) to an antenna on the roof or mast.

If your home already has an antenna installed, connect the coaxial cable to the back of your TV. Then go to "Set-up" and scan for DIGITAL channels. If you are trying rabbit ears, do the same.
