Sorry but it's hard to track by IMEI number. For protecting and finding back your lost phone, I would recommend an app called LEO Privacy:You can use your preserved number to send the commands to your lost phone and then find it.

Modems do not use IMEI -- it's only mobile-phones that do.

Help Tracking Lost Cell-Phone

Contact your service provider (ie.Orange, Vodafone etc), and tell them that you have lost you phone and you have the IMEI no. and you want to track it.

It can be tracked easily.

As far as I know IMEI numbers are like registration numbers, they dont actually trace. I know with modems etc that have IMEI numbers they cant be traced. At telstra IMEI numbers were only like a registration number, my suggestion is to cancel the phone. only a suggestion though....
