Our 2006 vintage Kenmore Oasis HE 27082 (110.27082602) washer stopped with an F code. There was no flashing number. After restarting the washer continued the load and finished all cycles. During the spin cycle, the washer now makes a loud noise, but does operate. The noise sounds similar to what one would expect if a bearing is failing. This model has a direct drive DC motor. I read the entire service manual, but could find no indication of bearing failure/repair. Before I disassemble the washer looking for bearings, I wanted to check to see where they would be installed and how to remove and replace them.

It appears your clutch assembly has failed in this instance.
For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...
FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.
PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.
If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.
Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.
If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.
Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question^%$#

Hi Rick Tuttle, I want to help you with your problem, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? You mentioned a service manual- or did you mean a user's manual?
No, I mean the service manual. The manual was all about electronics issues. I have since found some postings describing similar loud noise on spin cycle. In those cases the solution is to replace bearings in one of two methods. First is to replace the outer basket, which includes bearings. Second method is to replace bearings, drive shaft, and grease seal. The second method requires use of a special bearing press tool (which can be purchased from numerous vendors, and rented from a few. I am going with second method (using a rental).
