When I press the start button and hold down the 2 switches to engage the clamp and blade it does not engage them. The light comes on when I push the start button and the light dims, like normal, when I push in the two buttons together....Nothing happens. Do I have an electrical problem i.e.: switch or fuse?

ok, there is two possibly problems u could be experiencing. ONE: would be a worn out solenoid(needs to be replaced) or TWO: the starter bruckes are worn out so far that it is actually grounding out or they are not conecting to the armature in the starter. this is a relatively easy fix, but to try to find the parts s another story. i would recomend taking it to ur local dealer or a starter repair shop. they will be able to get the parts and fix it for u. my dad works at a starter/alternator repair shop here in chatham ontario.

try charging up the battery, the starter needs around 60 amps to turn over compared to the lights that only need around 5 amps, maybe it just doesnt have enough power to turn it over... hope this helps
SOURCE: press the start button and it just clicks
buddy replace the starter solenoid this is what is clicking these sometimes mess up get back to me if any more questions
SOURCE: Hi,
Could be a battery problem. The smell may well have been the battery over charging. The voltage regulator would have to be suspect if this is the case.

Lift the tank. Underneath it you'll find a plastic connector block joining loads of wires together. Turn the ignition on and push this connector block together, or twist it around a bit. If the ignition sequence starts, it'll be because the wires in the connector block are corroded. Moving the block sometimes makes a temporary fix, but ultimately it'll happen again until the block or the wiring harness ideally, is replaced.
