What is the brand of your USB to serial adapter, and what OS are you using?

Download the drivers from here http://ptf.com/staples/staples+2x1+usb+peripheral+switch+driver/

follow the instruction, place the saved drivers in a file called drivers some where you can find it easily. save all drivers to a USB key for future use should your computer crash and you need to rebuild it.

Try using a different USB port. If it still not working, it is probably a non-compatibility issue with OSX.

Windows 7 has NATIVE drivers for this but you need to ignore any warning about not being suitable for windows 7
They are also available from the staples site under support.

You can also look up the hardware ID and download a driver that way too.

Before you start installing the driver, please don’t plug your USB TO Serial Adapter into the USB port of your computer.  Follow the steps below to install Windows® 98 or Windows® ME driver 5.1 Turn on the power of computer and make sure the USB port is enabled and can working properly. 5.2 Insert the driver of USB-SERIAL ADAPTER into CD-ROM drive. Select “Install Products - USB-SERIAL ADAPTER - Install”. 5.3 Select the “Next” to install.
