I recommend you do not take off the glass. I have done it and was never able to get rid of the dust, which really shows up on every scan. The fogging has something to do with an optical coating on the underside of the glass. If I knew then what I know now, I would let it be. If the fogging doesn't show up in scans, leave it. If it really does show up, the glass itself is often held down by simple double stick tape. You try to keep the tape intact so you can put it back down. It may be strong enough that the plastic frame on top of it could snap. Do it in as clean (not dusty) environment as possible so dust does not drift down inside the scanner. Never touch the lamp or move the scan mechanism. Again, don't do it unless it's showing up on scan results. Sadly, nobody "fixes" scanners, they are disposable, like coffee pots, even if they cost 300.00.

The tip is interesting but, how to open and clean inside? That's the question. I don't see any screws, so, I just have to force the top end?

SOURCE: cleaning

Unfortunately, cleaning dirt or debris from under the glass requires disassembly of the scanner and must be done by an Authorized Epson Servicer. Please refer to the Epson Customer Care Centers. if its still within the warranty period call epson.

SOURCE: How do I clean the inside of the glass on the Epson 3490 Scanner?

Disconnect and remove the lid. Remove the two screws on the back of the base. Then use a screwdriver or flat blade to slightly open the back seam. Beginning at the back, run a blade up inside the upper part of the side seam. You will need to release three catches on each side. Once the sides are loose, raise the back of the top, while pushing forward, and the two snap catches at the front will release. The top then lifts off and you can clean the glass. Reassemble in reverse order.

SOURCE: scanner glass clean

Cleaning the glass is rather simple. Take the 2 screws under the cover out. Now gently lift the top part of the scanner (some force may be needed). Then the scanner is in 2 parts and the glass can be cleaned inside and outside with a wet wipe glass cleaning pad. Dry the glass with a towel and inspect the glass with a lamp, that no cleanser remains are left. Now install the scanner in reverse order.

SOURCE: The inside of the glass needs to be cleaned. How

The 3170 has a screw in each of the two slots where the lid inserts into the scanner. Remove the lid, remove these screws, and then the top portion of the scanner with the glass slides forward and off. Mine was stiff getting it off, but with some slight twisting and a bit of force it came off. You can then clean the glass.

Cloudy glasses

Depends on whether it was scratched or gone cloudy with the steam mist inside.
Use a good bufffer to clean if the glass is scratched.
If you meant the glasses put inside were cloudy and not clean thenit is possible that the jet pump spray does not have pressure and must be taken out and cleaned.

HP 6110 scanner glass is cloudy

Here is how, but it seems a lot of work.

- Remove all the torx-screws
- Remove the little glass on the left side
- Remove the Control Panel Cover (lifted it a little with a screwdriver and released two latches)
- Remove the Control Panel itself (another two latches&move to the left)
- The whole top of the 6110 is attached to the bottom with 4 latches. I remove that, turn it around and clean the glass.

Note: The cables between 6110-bottom and control panel/feeding unit are long enough to set those things aside.

How do I clean the INSIDE glass/platen?

You mean the inside of the scanner glass? (The platten is a part of the print unit),

You'll have to remove the sides and read cover. Unplug the scanner wires and remove the scanner assembly. Separate the document feeder from the scanner bed. Open the covers of the scanner bed (usually there are screws holding it together). Remove the glass and clean it. Reverse the process to reassemble.

Be careful. Canon multipasses are built a little like a Chinese puzzle box. There are little snaps everywhere as well as screws. Watch out you don't force anything and cause the snaps to break.
