The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

Trying to download pictures off of camera and it will not download all pictures

You don't say what make or model and you don't say if you can get some of the pictures.

It is likely that one of the pictures is damaged (electronically). You may have to download your pictures in groups of five or ten at a time until you cannot download anymore.
Then download each picture of that group of ten until you find the one that will not download. Skip that one (or more) and download the rest.
Once all the pictures are downloaded, the memory card or camera needs to be 'formatted' in the camera before you use it again. Formatting removes ALL pictures and files from a stick or card. Get ALL YOUR FILES Before formatting.

Every time I download new pictures, the camera also downloads older pictures already on my computer. Thanks.

After downloading pictures, are you keeping all your pictures on the camera card and never deleting them? Your card must be very full. Also, your computer can't tell the difference between new pictures and the ones you don't want to download. Why not download everything and then format the card in the camera for a fresh start?

I would download the free software from Google to store your pictures at www.googlepicasa3.com .Then plug the cable into the pc then switch on the camera. Then click import when the download has finished and you should see a box with the name of your camera in it,just click that and your pictures should download into the library. Can not download pictures on computer- "Communication error" showing on camera display window; camera chip 2GB with 4100 pictures. Tried using another 2GB chip with less than 100 pictures in it...

Start deleting pictures base on how good they are, importance and priority. Then by trial and error delete 50 pictures, download; 100 ... 200. Finally it download ... after 10-15 seconds wait. Total pictures deleted 1700 out of 4200. So there is a limitation on this type of camera with a 2GB chip, you have to stop taking pictures and change camera
chip when the total count reach 2500 + or - 50 pictures.
