My 3 year old HP Pavilion DV6605US keeps rebooting with a blank screen every few seconds. What should I look for in order to correct the situation? Shield509

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

one faulty lead will cause a computer to fail to detect a hard drive, continously reboot, shut down a computer
    hope this helps

Can't get the Cd/Dvd drive to work, Windows vista doesn't show it in the device manager, I have a n HP Pavillion dv6500 notebook around 3 yrs old

If the device manager does not recognise the drive then it has most likely failed. You should be able to remove the drive, one screw on the underside, and reboot, Once you have done this power down, reseat the drive and power up again. If the Plug and Play software doe snot recognise it then you need a new drive.

My cd/dvd driver is not working on my hp notebook

Go to HP's support website, find your laptop, and get the missing driver, or find out what brand your cd/dvd drive is and go to the manufacturers website to get the driver. I hope this helps!

I just recently tried that very thing with a dv6605us and did it ...almost. I could not find the necessary drivers, I even purchased a copy of Driver Detective and it didn't find them either. I ended up putting Vista back in. Perhaps you will be more fortunate than me. If you contact someone at HP they may be able to tell you for sure it can be done.
I know this isn't what you wanted to hear but it may save you the five to six hours I put into it.
Good luck, please leave a rating, thank you kindly...

Computer starts, attempts to load display, crashes, restarts.

You should do a system restore. It may have happened because of a system update, if your set up to receive them automatically.
