LAND LINE TELEPHONES: Can you not assign a long distance carrier?

Is it possible to have only local service and no local long distance service on a land line phone? I currently have my local service assigned to one provider, and local long distance, long distance and international assigned to another provider. I would like to set it up to dial only local calls, as I use internet phone or cell phone for long distance. Right now I am paying $2.50 a month for long distance service I have not used in almost two years (the company that carries the local service would charge me $7/mo for the same ''service''). I am not ready to totally ditch my land line yet.

Yes you can have your phone set to local calls only.
You have to speak with your service provider and tell them you no longer wish to be able to call long distance from your house phone. but still want local calls only.

I have a Bell Cordless Telephone TE-2014/017. Whenever someone is calling me it does not display the caller ID and it only displays "CALL". How do I set up name display

You need to have caller id activated on your phone line and it is a subscribed to feature and is not free. Contact your service provider for more information.

Our landline was stolen several times and we don't have telephones? 054-3340047 was my number, what can you offer me?

You're going to have to explain your situation better. Of course you don't have phones: they were stolen. What kind of number do you have in your question? Model # of the last phone that was taken? What kind of help are you seeking? Hopefully someone can help after you submit better details.

Do I have to dial 9-1 before the area code when faxing?

Hello, If you are in an office or corporate environment where the phone system is on a PBX you need to dial 9 usually to get outside the office. If you just have the unit setup at home or to an analog phone jack (not going thru a PBX) then just dial 1 + area code + number. If the number is local then don't use a 1, just the phone number and area code.

Need access code to fax long distance, just started happening.

That would usually be your telephone service provider not the fax machine, if it is a business line, the permissions may have been changed. Check with your business communication administrator, or your local phone service provider.

Hope this is of some help.

Can't fax

Can you send faxes to a local number? If you can the problem is likely to be that there is no long distance carrier set up for your new VOIP service. You could also try using a regular telephone connected to the same jack as the fax uses to try dialing a long distance number, this may give you a hint as to what's wrong. You should also contact Comcast tech support about this problem, the VOIP box may not be properly configured for long distance service.
