How do you reset the brush to get it to work again

Hi Carol, Many models have a reset button (breaker) on them to protect the motor that turns brush. Look for one of these on yours and reset it. Should be on the outside of the unit.
This could also be a missing or worn belt. If you forgot to look for this when you had it apart, open it up again and make sure there is a rubber belt running between the motor and the pulley on the brush. If it's there, try turning the brush while holding one side of the belt with your fingers, to see if the brush pulley slips easy under the belt. If is does, you need a new belt. Make sure it's not plugged in... : )

DC24 is equipped with a safety device which shuts off the brush bar if something jams it - for example, a shoelace or a rug fringe. From what you've described, it sounds like there may be something in the cleaner head which is jamming the brush bar. It's also important to remove any threads or hair from around the brush bar regularly. Please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:

You may also find the video below useful. Make sure that before you test the machine, you've reclined it into the vacuuming position, because the brush bar will never rotate when the machine is standing upright.

Turn it off and turn it back on again and it should reset.If that dosent work you probably broke the belt.It's easy enough to replace by just removing the bottom plate and the brush and installing the new belt. www.sewvac.com

This unit has a reset button on the side of the hood. Recline handle, turn power switch on, pressing down in carpet mode, press reset buttonon the side of the hood, the brush should turn on.

You need to replace the belts. Here are the belts you need and a manual with instructions:

can you turn the brush by hand? if it turns real freely the belt is broke or the brush siezed up make sure there isn't any carpet strans wrapped around the ends of the brush otherwise the brush won't turn.if its the belt make sure you clean the motor shaft before you put on the new belt,the old rubber from the old belt will make the new belt run unevevly and break again..good luck

If the brush is spinning ok, and the belt isn't slipping, then probably the circuit breaker is bad, or the motor is causing the problem.

There may also be a reset button. If the brushes get stuck the unit can shut off power to the brushes to keep a total melt down from occurring. The reset button should return power in these types of vacuums.
