Lawnmower blade wont turn

While moving, ran over rope that became wrapped around the blade. I removed the rope and now the starter cord will not pull out all the way. Also, the blade will not turn.

Probably bent the shaft. Disconnect the spark plug to prevent accidental starting and lay the lawn mower on its side. Slowly turn the blade with your hand and watch the center of the shaft. If it wobbles at all it is bent. $150 to $200 job. Probably time for a new mower.

SOURCE: Mower blades locked

You may have broke the flywheel key. if that broke it will not start. The key is important for the proper ignition timing. They break so you dont damage the crankshaft. It may be a big job if you dont know your way around a small engine.

Most likely you have flooded the cylinder with oil. You can try this and see if it helps you out.

Remove the spark plug, clean and dry it with carb cleaner, let dry, spray carb cleaner in the spark plug hole and thoroughly flush it out. Let is sit this way for about 20 minutes. Reinstall your spark plug and see if it will start up for you. If it does you are done if not go to an auto parts store and buy some starter fluid. Spray the fluid with just short burst into the air cleaner. Try to start it. Repeat and it should stay running in a couple of tries.

Your piston cylinder is partially full of oil and/or gas. Take the spark plug out and pull the rope four or five times to blow everything out of the cylinder. If it's still hard to pull over with the plug out check the oil level in the crank case to see if it filled with gas while the mower was on its side. Make sure the plug is dry and clean and reinstall it. When it starts it's going to smoke a lot until it cleans out the cylinder.

NEW EARTHQUAKE TILLER VERY HARD TO PULL?

A tangled coil of rope or a broken spring may be the problem. ... If a lawnmower blade is loose or missing, the rope will pull part way, then become very difficult. Most lawnmower engines count on the flyweight of the blade to carry the engine through its compression stroke. Do not run a mower without its blade.
What if the starter rope won't pull? The crankshaft is connected to the blade shaft on your recoil start walk behind lawn mower, so if the pull cord is stuck, it could be because something is blocking the movement of the blade. Disconnect the spark plug for safety, then take a look under the deck.

Broken Cub Cadet

I dont own one or there but it is an easy repair. Find a wrench/socket that will fit the 3 or 4 bolts holding down the pull cord (recoil) cover and remove them and the cover. (Prob. a 10 mm socket) Then wrap a cord/narrow rope CLOCKWISE around the pulley 3-5 times and prepare mower to start as you normally would and pull the rope. Now you can cut your grass before it becomes unmanageable. Take the recoil to any small engine repair shop and have them replace the rope and then you can reinstall the recoil. In my area the charge $7-$10 for this.

Pull rope will not pull

Remove recoil rope assembly. Ensure rope is properly wrapped around. While recoil assembly is removed use ratchet and socket to rotate fly wheel, remove spark plug first, observe compression and exhaust at spark plug whole during rotation of fly wheel. Clean or replace spark plug. Ensure oil is full. 30w. Set spark plug gap. Always use Stabile in gas. Replace coil rope is required. Purchased by the foot at any mower repair store.

I have a 1500 series Cub Cadet, 54 inch cut. I ran over a rope that wrapped around the blades shutting down the mower. I turned the mower off and removed the rope. I engage the PTO. I hear it click but...

put the rope back around the blades then go in reverse slowly, park the tractor where you found it prior to running the rope over, get off, shake your head a few times, then try it again, this time pick the rope up first! that should fix ya!

Spring not working on my lawn mower

You need to take the engine cover off. Then inspect the pulley where the rope is wrapped around. There should be two little tabs that flip out when you yank on the cord (they engage the cup on top of flywheel) make sure they are properly seated (not at an angle or broken off). Then untie the rope and remove it from the pulley. Then carefully turn the pulley counter clock wise a few times and then let go of it. (Watch your fingers so you don't get pinched) If it spins back your spring should be fine. You just have to turn the pulley again until it gets some pretty good tension. Then use a srewdriver or something to hold it in place so it doesn't unwind. Put rope back into the pulley and tie it off. Hold onto the rope and remove screwdriver and let rope go back in. Try pulling rope and make sure it is working before reinstalling.

If you find that the spring is broken they are a pain to rewind. You can probably buy a new engine shroud with the rewinder on it but it is probably pricey.

If you can find a replacement rewinder only (no engine shroud) you can remove the rivets that hold the rewinder on the shroud and put new rewinder assembly on and rerivet on (make sure you have the rope in the right position)

How this helps you.
