NO PC told at all, a hopeless case
XP PCs 2001-2006 do not run w8 up. period
same with most VISTA PCs 2007
toshiba had your driver, ever heard of them.
but is now at dynabook.com
go there get them.
they will show there, no w8 up drivers.
see there are none
at the most only MS limp drivers, weak and lacking full support. or dead.
on vista PC and vista drivers in hand
it may load the vista driver to w8
if and only if you use compatiblity mode.
vista-sound.ext right click it and pick compat test.
pure luck happens.
NO PC told at all why ?
we can not show you the drivers at dynabook.com
lacking that, that be IMPOSSIBLE.

If you still can't record sound on Windows 10, try running Microsoft's dedicated audio recording troubleshooter. This tool automatically detects and repairs audio issues that may prevent you from recording sound on your computer.
Here's how to launch the audio troubleshooter:
1. Go to Start > type 'settings' > double-click on the first result to launch the Settings page
2. Navigate to Update & Security > select Troubleshooter > right-click on the 'Recording Audio' troubleshooter
3. Run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to fix the problem.
Or, you can change to another audio recording software to record sound on your computer. Here is a post including some recommendations: 12 Best Audio Recorder Software

go to "start", "Control panel", "Sound and audio devices", check "place volume icon in the task bar" (you may have to uncheck it (apply), re-check it (apply) for it to show up (mine sometimes disappears as well for no reason.
Check that volume (s) are not on "mute"

Hi Stephan M Marchetti, THEN
Brandon Lee wants more answers to this question
NOW WE HAVE HYJACKERS AND
SO BRANDON HAS 2 UNSTATED PC'S TOO/??"?
WHY NOT START your own posts fresh
with PC model told, clearly.
and OS you run . w8
did you upgrade to w8> not told.(jacker)
windows 8? on top of a PC that does not run windows 8 will have no GOOD sound drivers for w8, so again x2, what PC is this (the XP PC does not run w8 does not)
toshiba models.
vast moldels exist did you know for a fact most do not run w8 or w10, MOST for 20 years do not run w8, means sound too and all chips inside work too, NIC, wifi and gpu.
You do know sound is the most hard.
rigth, and only OEM driver work (base sound chip)
reasons to fail sound;
I have 3 sound cards;chips in my PC.
USB sound DAC, on board oem,. and external USB speaker direct sound and even hdmi sound. modern PCs.
my guess is you have no USB sound devices at all, and are only using he one sound resource there is, day one new .
The driver most be loaded from Toshiba your only clue was that.
and load them to w8 PC.
if toshbia shows no w8 support then bingo there is none
ok drivers good we go to level 2 usage
control panel
see sound click it.
set output to local speaker. laptop inside.
then set input to mic . inputs.
now record sounds,
then play them back
we can not not guess PCs, it will not ever happen./
the model is in 3 places for 20+ years
old to new 1,2,3.
1;bottom sticker. tells it for vast years
2; the moved to inside battery well.
3: then on new PC all that is gone (sad)
and is on page1 BIOS page, called information. power on hit bios hot key read.
we can not help blind, ever.
post photo of it and we can play the game what's my PC, easy. well with bottom shown yes.
XP PC are 2001 to 2006
and 99% do not run w8 or 10 and never w11
the chip makers that old ended drivers,
16 years ago support ended.
most drivers googled here are 99% infected !!!
chips that fail are.
sound (super easy to fail ask)
Ethernet.
wifi dead.
Display not dead but limp mode crippled.
if you have working drivers for sound
then get free
audacity APP>
run that, for free.
play
edit
and record any why you want.
most hardware does not at all
play and record at the same time,
just s PC only on desk nothing else.
use this.
https://www.audacityteam.org/
free and safe and no ads, no pain.
answer 2:
the
"have a USB plug microphone"
this is not just a mic it is a mike and and USB DAC there
it must have its own driver or fails
I have fancy one here, but had to load their driver to make it work
then in control panel inputs turn off
local mic, and turn on USB mic or it will be dead.
then sound output must be set to internal PC speakers next or it can not play any things/
you have TWO MIC:"S not just one.
