If the unit is under warranty, take it back!

If it's not, and you are tech savvy, start looking for bulging or leaking electrolytic capacitors in the power supply and inverter sections of the TV.
This is almost always the issue in a case like this, and replacing those bad caps should fix you right up.
Otherwise, it's time to take it to a shop, or just get a new one.

It requires a box "period". It is only a monitor with no tuner. You will have to get a HD cable box, or if your on an outside antenna you will need the hd converter box and also with satellite.
