The knob is to reduce the amount of suction. It normally should be closed.

There is too much suction even with the hand tools on Hoover wind tunnel. Can i adjust suction somehow?

Hi, it's Jeremy from Crucial Vacuum.

If there is too much suction, adjust the nozzle control knob to a higher setting. The knob is located on the front of the vacuum at the bottom. For optimal cleaning efficiency a low setting should be used for most types of carpet and for hardwood floors, tile, and deep carpets use a higher setting.

You can purchase direct all of your replacement filters, bags, and accessories for your Hoover vacuum from Crucial Vacuum with free shipping and an exclusive 10% coupon for Fixya.com readers, use code: FIXYA10

Debris is not going in to the canister and the wand is constantly suctioning even when not in use

It sounds like The undercarrage assembly needs replacing on your machine..

If you stand behine the machine and look at the undercarrage you will see a small arm on the extream left hand side that extends from the same part that holds the back wheels.
On the end of this arm thier should be a small knob that turns the internal valve from hose to floor suction. if it is broken it won\'t change over and will either suck only thru the wand or the brush bar depending on when it broke

Bellow are two pics the one of a new undercarrage assembly ( top one)Screw driver pointing knob out
the bottom one withthe knob missing index.php?action=dlattach;topic=388.0;attach=299;image

MY vaccuum wont suction or turn at the brush bar. The wand works and I already checked/cleaned all the areas the instrucion manual said to.

The DC07 has a "brush control system" operated by a knob on the right side of the base. This knob has two positions: "bare floors" (or "off") and "carpet" (or "auto"). The roller will turn only when the knob is on "carpet", and even then only when the handle is tilted back (with the base still flat on the floor). The problem is that this system uses two belts, only one of which is easy to see. If you're sure that the control knob is in the correct position, and still the roller doesn't turn when the handle is lowered, then most likely the belt that you can't see is broken (that belt goes from the motor to the clutch mechanism behind the control knob). It's also possible that the clutch itself has failed.
Belt/clutch replacement on this model is not for the faint-hearted! To see what's involved, you can go to www.dysonmedic.com then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "DC07 clutch replacement". At least you will see how to remove the clutch cover so you can check on the other belt and confirm if this is the problem or not. Then you have to decide who is to do the job!
As for loss of suction, check carefully for splits in the short length of clear plastic hose on the underside of the machine (pull it off from the motor end and then unscrew it from the brush-roll end).
I value your feedback, so please remember to rate this response. Good luck!

I have a 4 year old pink dyson that I've loved until recently. It's always been easy to unclog when it wasen't picking up-now it seems maybe a seal problem has occured. The suction is making a funny noise...

Thanks for your response.First: (This is most likely as you say the suction is making a funny noise.) The DC07 has a short length of clear plastic hose on the underside of the machine. Check this very carefully for splits (pull it off from the motor end and then unscrew it from the brush-roll end). Even the smallest split can cause serious loss of suction. If you find a split it's best, and inexpensive, to replace the hose rather than try to repair it. Next: (Less likely.) Most, but not all, models of the DC07 have a "brush control system" operated by a knob on the right side of the base. This knob has two positions: "bare floors" (or "off") and "carpet" (or "auto"). The roller will turn only when the knob is on "carpet", and even then only when the handle is tilted back (with the base still flat on the floor). Dust pick-up will bee poor if the brush-roll has stopped working. The problem is that this system uses two belts, only one of which is easy to see. If you're sure that the control knob is in the correct position, but the roller doesn't turn when the machine is on and the handle is lowered, then most likely one of the belts is broken (one belt goes from the motor to the clutch mechanism behind the control knob, the other from the clutch to the brush-roll).
But, with any luck, you will find that it's that little plastic hose that's the problem anyway... and don't listen to the Oreck salesman!

No Wind Coming Out of Dirt Devil

The suction hole will never have wind coming out of it, it is for suction. To switch from floor to hose, turn the control knob labeled floor / hose.

Dyson DC07 Original won't pick up at base

Hi,

Lie machine on its side pull back handle as if vacuuming & switch on (KEEP YOUR FINGERS & ANY LOOSE CLOTHING CLEAR OF BRUSH ROLLER)

Brush should spin if it doesnt ensure clutch control knob on side of machine is in drive position if it isnt rotate knob by hand to drive brush should now spin.

If it doesnt & your machine has A clutch either clutch will need replacing or belts will need replacing.

Manuals are available to replace belts & remove the clutch from this site http://dysonmanuals.llc.nu/index.htm
