Over heating and shutting down

I have a ViewSonic Pro 8300 Projector and it keeps on turning off after about 20 minutes for over heating. Lamp Hours are at 165. Do you think having a small fan blowing on the machine would help at all?

In looking at other forums I saw that putting it on the the energy saving mode helped I tried that because the bulb has hardly any hours and is still the original and the air filter is clean The energy saving mode worked the projector hasn't been shutting down

My lamp hours expired and I purchased new lamp but hastily installed it and didn't tighten screws very much all, but initially projector came on with a little difficulty. I connected devices cable box and dvd at first no problem.

Next day projector ray cut out after about 15 minutes continuously over and over again. I called viewsonic and the rep could not diagnose problem at all, recommended that I send it back for maintenance the only thing I needed it that very night for a group presentation for 75 ppl.

I went online and read a post on this thread written by

mrb2981

mrb2981 mentioned that he took off lid and tightened screews and that fixed the problem for him, so I thought I would give it a shot and sure enough when I removed the lid screws were very loose, I LIGHTLY fully tightened with power drill, applied lid and now problem seems to be solved - thanks to

mrb2981.

I will call viewsonic back in the morning and ask them to educate their representatives to this simply suggestion - totally makes sense and easy suggestion to apply.

A small fan blowing on the machine would not help at all
there are 2 reasons for "over heating"
1,the lamp is not good ,is not original one ,it works with too much heating.
2,the air-filter need to be clean,
by the way,Our company supply the original lamp, and the price is USD100
any questions, feel free to contact me
have a nice day!

SOURCE: Viewsonic PJ556d shuts down after 30-60 seconds

My solution sounds dumb, I had the same issue. Took the lamp cover off the bottom. The screws were loose holding in the lamp. Maybe they heat and expand and eventually work their way out and the lamp doesn't make good contact. Just tightened mine up, the unit would power off after 45 minutes prior. Been on now for 5 hours, no trouble.

SOURCE: lamp and temp lights come on after power up and stay on. Lamp only has 330 hours on it.

OK, that explains it. The bulb you have installed in the projector might be the original bulb that came with the projecoter when it was new. Just becuase it states 334 hours does not mean it is new. In fact, you could have a original bulb with 3000 hrs and reset the hour timer on the projector, which means your 3000 hour bulb might have 3334 hours on it because the person who owned it before you, reset the hour timer.. Best bet, buy a new bulb and reset the hour meter and see what happens. If you have the same problem, then your ballest might needs to be replace which is rare...

Hello :

Try to change the bulb .

Here is how :

1:Make sure that your power switch is off and that the power cord is unplugged from the electrical socket.
It is also wise to unplug any other cables and label them in order to restore them in the right way once the lamp is replaced.

2:In order to see the lamp, remove the access handle on the outside cover. You may need to use a screwdriver.

3:Pull out the used lamp and clean the relevant parts using micro fiber products and not paper.
Please note that in some projectors a small inside filter should also be replaced.

4:Insert the new lamp into the projector carefully avoiding touching the glass of the lamp itself.
Touching the lamp will deposit skin oil that will likely damage any new lamp during use.

5:Reassemble the access panel, replug the cables and power up the projector.

Things You'll Need:
new projector lamp
screwdriver
micro fiber duster
Warning:
avoid touching the bare projector lamp.

I have a viewsonic pjd5111 when plugged in and try to turn on both the temp and lamp light glow orange, the projector tries to come on I can hear the fans come on but the projector lamp does not come on,...

Unfortunately, the PJD5111 is indicating that the lamp has overheated. If you wait 45 minutes for the projector to cool down and these lights still come on, then the unit has an internal failure. The failure may be in the temperature sensor or that circuit. If the projector is still under warranty or on a maintenance plan, contact the dealer.

I wish that I had better news for you.

The first lamp "burned out" after only half a year of use and we only used it once a week. We bought a replacemente lamp and it burned out after three weeks... Someone plugged in the projector, the lamp...

The early lamp failures are due to poor air flow or longer hours of use.
So take care to clean the filters, see that the lamp brigtness is not put too high and reduce the hours of continuous use.

I have a DLP Optoma projector. It's a few years old. When my wife and I turn it on, it usually shuts down after about 20 minutes of use. what can we do to solve that?

clean it out. it may be dusty inside. the dust keeps in the heat, and if the projector can't cool down, it cuts the heat source- the lamp. also see if the lamp is close to 2000 hours. it may need replacing.

InFocus LP130 Projector has intermittent power off

go into the menu to find out the lamp hours. it could be the lamp, but if the projector shuts down and not just the lamp, there is either an overheating issue, or a power supply issue.
