Mixer stopped working

I was trying to mash up cooked beans by applying pressure and suddenly the mixer stopped functioning. Is there something I can do about it?

SOURCE: Mixer Repair

Kitchenaid doesn't repair anything over 1 year old. I have one that is 3 years old (KSM90). I have used it less than 10 times and it stopped working. The plastic piece in the back of the unit that holds all of the wires snapped. There are no repair centers in my state (new mexico). They told me I can pay $32 to have them send me a "repair kit" that includes shipping to and from a repair center and a box and packing materials. They then call you to tell you how much the repair is going to be. If you choose NOT to have them repair it, they charge you a $25 diagnositc fee just for looking at it on top of the $32 you spent to ship it there and back. It's a shame that this appliance costs over $300 and this is the service they give you.

If you look into the brush holder you will see a stopper at the botom ,(this is so when brushes are wore the spring is not driven into armature) .. the brushes have to be inserted so the groove is lined up , try that

Ok um.... did you read your warranty? If you had you would see that this model has a two year warranty.
If you simply called 1 800 458 8407 and told them the problem, they would file your claim and then tell you to cut the plug end off of the cord and send it (Not the unit) along with a copy of the receipt for replacement. They will then send you a brand new unit in the mail to your home. You get to keep everything, including the original unit!!. Now you have double everything (Bowls, Beaters....Mixer) That is a awesome warranty.

SOURCE: Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer won't release beater

I had this same problem as well.  The beater was stuck like glue to the rotating arm, and it would not budge with any amount of pressure.  I tried the cooking spray and it did nothing.  But today I put a rag in hot/boiling water and then carefully wrapped it around the top of the beater.  I let it sit for 10 minutes. Then I put the rag in hot water again and repeated the process for about another 5 minutes.  When this was done, I covered the beater in a towel (to protect it) and forcefully tapped (ok... I pounded) it with the flat side of my meat tenderizer (it was all I had...you could use a mallet or hammer).  It took a little bit of work because I had to hammer it from the bottom, then the side, then the top to get the little spoke guided through the shaft.  But it did finally come off.  After cleaning with hot water, I put the beater on again and noticed that it was still a little hard to get on/off.  So, I put a little bit of veg. oil on it, and it seems to be better.  Going forward, I will be sure to clean the top of the beater & arm after each use and then coat it with a little oil to keep from sticking.  Best of luck!

SOURCE: Kitchenaid Mixer will not lock

This sounds like an issue of beater to bowl adjustment, which can come out of alignment naturally over time and with use of the machine.

If the flat beater is striking the bottom of your bowl, this may cause the locking mechanism to loosen and may cause the mixing head to "bounce" during use.

Your Use and Care Guide will cover the "beater to bowl adjustment," which you can do at home in a few minutes with a flathead screwdriver.

Hope this helps!

Hi my mixer suddenly stopped when i was working on it. The butter i was beating was kinda hard is that a reason it stopped?

Does the mixer not turn on at all or the beater just wont turn? Depending on the mixer it could have a fuse that shuts the mixer off if over heated, but it could also be gears.

If you can get the model off of the bottom of the mixer, and then give a bit more information on how it is not working then we can help you with the repair.

Also yes, the butter would most likely be the reason the mixer stopped working. You are supposed to use butter that is soft & at room temperature. I find that if you are in a rush or forgot to soften the butter you can cut it up into small slices and then cream it in your mixer and it doesn't strip the gears.

Mixer revs, then shuts off, will not reset

your kitchen aid has a little device inside called the hall effect sensor. These often come dislodged or just stop functioning. If you are mechanically inclined you can replace this yourself.

Seems to have shorted out. Mixing mashed potatoes and it sparked and stopped working

more than likely you have an electrical problem, loose wire, bare wire.
check your cord then open up the back see if you have a bare wire or see if you can spot a black spot were it may have arked

i don't mean to be too basic, but have you used the slider at the mixer base that moves the bowl so the beater can be at the bowl edge or towards the middle? It works on ours, it's the black pad or button there at the front of the base, just push down and slide it. Maybe they made a cheaper model with no sliding base.
