ATD 66419700 NO DIAL TONE.

That means that the modem cannot detect the correct (or any) dial tone when it picks up the line. Connect a normal; telephone to the line and lift the receiver. If you hear a normal dial tone, then the line is ok. Ithat is the case, then the modem may be faulty. You could try atz command and see what happens. If it is on a pabx or fax machine or something, the dial tone may be non-standard and teh modem won't recognise it. In that case, consult the modem manual for the AT command that tells it to ignore dial tone and dial anyway. You may have to enter that command as well as teh correct command to store that setting, alternatively you can enter the commands as an initialisation string in whatever software you are using to dial.
Hope that helps.

Dial tone of my phone disappears whenever i switch on my computer and my d link dial up modem can't find dial tone. What should i do?

Disconnect the telephone-cable from the computer's modem.
Does your telephone regain the dial-tone?

If so, then replace the computer's modem -- it is going "off-hook" as soon as you turn on the computer, not just when you try to use the modem to open a dial-up session.

We are unable to have highspeed internet and have to have dial up but there is no modem on the laptop I have. How do I get a modem downloaded into my laptop to use the dial up at my home?

Hi Guest,
You cannot download a modem for dial-up internet as you do not have an rj11 phone jack on your laptop so you need something like this that is a dial up modem that plugs into your usb socket.

Computer modem and dial tone

Hello Mikenrgrsvll

This problem can be due to the software not handling a certain dial tone rather than a specific hardware fault. Around the world there is a variance in the signal quality of the dial tone which causes a report of no dial tone detection. Disable the dial tone detection to prevent the system from trying to detect a dial tone.
Disabling dial tone detection for modems:
Windows XP
  1. Click Start
  2. Select Control Panel
  3. Click Switch to Classic View to change the control panel view
  4. Click Phone and Modem Options
  5. Select the Modem Tab
  6. Select the installed modem (Example: Lucent Technologies Soft Modem AMR)
  7. Click the Properties button
  8. Select the Modem tab in the Properties window
  9. Click Wait for dial tone before dialing to remove the check from the checkbox
  10. Select the Advanced tab
  11. Add X3 to the Extra initialization commands field in the Extra Settings box
  12. Click OK twice
  13. Select Switch to Category View to change back the control panel view
  14. Close Control Panel
if this does not work trying re-installing modem drivers.

hope this helps, have a good day.

Modem problem

Disconnect the phone line from the modem and connect a normal phone to this phone line. Lift the handset and check it you have a dial tone and see if you can dial out.
If you don't get a dial tone then there is a fault with the phone line and it needs to be repaired before you can use your modem.

Do I need a modem card?

If you will be using a DIAL-UP internet for that computer, you really need a PCI dial modem for it and it will come with a setup CD that you need to run to that computer so all software will be installed for that dial up modem and that should be it....

Trying to launch internet explorer.it gives me error 680.

680 - There is no dial tone.

All versions of Windows are affected by this error.
No dial tone: There are many possible causes of a No Dial Tone Error.
First, try testing the modem's ability to detect dial tone and to dial by using HyperTerminal with the direct to COM port connect method - see Using HyperTerminal. If you give your modem an AT&FX1 command, and then a dial command, dial-tone detection will be disabled; if you still do not get dial tone, the modem may not be installed correctly (especially if it is a PCI or soft-modem); or the cable from the modem to the phone-line jack may be bad or installed in the wrong connector on the modem - try another line cord, and make sure you are plugged in to the LINE - not phone - jack on the modem. Plug a regular phone into the phone jack on the modem and make sure it has dial tone. The modem may also be defective. Many new modems come with an electronic circuit instead of the traditional electro-mechanical relay used to take the modem off-hook. Some of these designs are proving less reliable; often, they will be 'stuck' in the off-hook position, so unplugging, the plugging in the phone cord may give dial-tone. If this is the case, the modem needs repair or replacement.
If the modem will blind dial (x1), but not detect dial-tone otherwise, the problem is likely to be in the proper selection of the Country in Windows->ControlPanel->Telephony or in improper installation of the modem or lack of support for your country in the driver you are using. Check to see if there are updated drivers for your modem.
If the modem dials properly with detection (x3) in HyperTerminal, but does not detect dial tone when using DUNs, the problem may be DUNs (check for upgrade or re-install) or the proper setup and modem selection for the DUNs connectoid.
For Embarq telephone service customers, this error can indicate that you have a message waiting in your voicemail. Embarq changes the dial-tone sound to a "fast" busy signal when a new message is present in your voicemail box. This "fast" busy signal can confuse the modem into thinking there is no-dial tone present on the line.

Dial-up: Internet Connection

do your pc have a dial-up modem card?
What's the brand? Go to download the latest driver for the modem and try and see.

If not, right click on my computer icon, go to hardware tab, select "device manage", see does it detect any modem driver or not.

If after installing the driver still the same and can't be detected, most properly your modem is going to "heaven".....

Try to change another modem, see whether it can work or not.

No longer dialing Lond Distance

If your modem can fax a local number or dial-up an Internet Service Provider in your Local Area then your Internal Modem is just fine. Check if the configuration of your Modem to access outside long-distance number. Go to your Control Panel-Open Phone & Modem Options-Dialing Rules (Tab)- then click on EDIT Button. You can enter the number needed to have a long distance dialing. If you don't know the number needed for long-distance dialing then ask your Local Phone Service Provider.
