My dyson animal is hard to push on carpet - the beater bar is still operational. When I turn off the beater bar and run the vacuum on hardwood the beater bar stops moving, but it still ''rolls'' on the hardwood - it doesn't pull up like it used to. It also seems to not be picking up as well as it used to, although no blockages are present and the filter is clean.

On a DC17 it is common for the bristles of the brush roll to become worn or missing. If the brush roll isn't doing a good job it will not pick up even light stuff like hair and lint. Check your brushroll and replace it and the belt if it is worn.

If suction is not what it was, check all of your hoses and connections for vacuum leaks. And the beater roll should always be turning - check out the belt for slippage.

SOURCE: Suction loss when handle is tipped back to clean carpet

can any one help,
Our Dyson Animal vacuum has plenty of suction when it is upright and the attachments are being used off the hose, but when the handle is tipped back to begin cleaning carpets the beater head is getting no suction. As the handle is being tipped back you can hear what sounds like a flapper valve in the body of the vacuum opening and then all the suction just goes away.

SOURCE: beater bar on Dyson upright won't turn when handle is lowered

I have finally fixed my sister's dyson dc 15 beater bar problem. It was just 2 tiny broken wires connect to circuit board lead to the beater bar. The wires broke where they go through the black rubber gommet. You need a torx screwdriver tx 15 to remove 2 plastic covers to access the wires. When looking at the front of the vacuum, the gray covers located on the right side of the vacuum. 1 big cover with a black rubber gasket and other small gray cover is on the rotating ball area.
This my new year resolution is to warn people not to buy Dyson vacuum cleaner ( Junk) design to break down! Shame on you Dyson!!!! Save your money find good old vacuum cleaner with metal parts.

OLD IS IN NEW IS JUNK!

Happy New Year!

SOURCE: Dyson making loud noise

If your brushroller isn't spinning it will make the loud sound. Try removing the brushroll and reinstalling it. If this doesn't work, you may need a new brushroller. You can find one here...

How to Turn off beater bar

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC44's brush bar is engineered to rotate on both hard floors and carpeting. The brush bar includes stiff nylon bristles to agitate and remove stubborn dirt and pet hair from carpet, and anti-static carbon fibre filaments to remove fine dust from hard floors and crevices.

For this reason, the brush bar is designed to run on all floor surfaces when the machine is in use, and cannot be turned off. You might find our Getting started guide useful:

I hope this answers your question, but if there's anything else we can help you with you're welcome to contact our experts directly on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Fault finding

Have you accidentally switched off the beater bar via the dial on the head? Some models have a 'hard floors' and a 'carpets' setting (which disengages/engages the beater bar).

I have a Dyson Animal bagless vaccume and can not get the beater bar to work. I have cleaned it really good and seems that it doesn't switch from bare floor to carpet

Is this a new vacuum for you, or are you familiar with how it works? The beater bar button is on the front of the handle. It is a large half button with the picture of a beater bar on it. This button has to be pushed down for the bar to work.

If you already knew this and your vacuum is one you have had for awhile, it may have a worn or broken belt. The manual should tell you how to replace the belt, and you should be able to purchase one through the dyson website http://dyson.com under PARTS or at the store where you purchased the vacuum.

Please let me know if this works for you.

I have a dyson animal (purple) "the ball" vacuum and now when I push the button to turn off the beater bar it turns off my vacuum. Help?

There is a linkage between the on/off and the beater bar switch that probably has came loose or is broken. It also could be wires shorting out.

My dyson dc17 will not roll across the carpet, because their is too much suction.?

Turn on the beater bar with the gray button next to the red power button. The powered beater bar will "propel" the vacuum across the carpet.

The beater bar on my Dyson won't turn. The vacuum runs and suctions but the bar won't turn and the belt is not broke. The beater bar did get a carpet fiber caught and wrapped around it which stopped the...

The belt doesn't have to be broken to make the vacuum not work correctly. If the belt is stretched the vacuum won't operate the way it is supposed to. You can get replacement Dyson Belts here:

Noisy on rugs!

Are the rugs long haired or short haired? Most likely the suction is just causing the noise when it picks up the rug and the buzz saw could be the beater bar hitting the rug then. I actually own a DC14 and it does the same thing and the rugs like to be dragged along. Nothing really to fix this, just the way it is. You could try it with the beater bar raised and see how well it works then but this sounds normal.

Have a good day

Beater Bar Does not turn

YOU MAY HAVE A POSSIBLE BAD BELT OR THE MOTOR THAT RUNS THE BAR MAY BE BAD, THE OTHER POSSIBILITY IS THE SWITCH THAT TURNS ON THE BAR MAY BE BAD. OR A WIRE COULD HAVE COME OFF THE MOTOR. i THINK YOU DO KNOW THAT THE BEATER BAR DOES NOT RUN WHEN ON WOOD FLOORS.
