Hi Mark, check that the fiber optic cable is not damaged, has no breaks in its extension
replace and test with another cable, if the fault continues, check the audio input assignment in the Bar
I hope you can solve it

When switching to built in apps on smart tv's what happens a lot of the times is it doesn't enable the sound output to external devices, check in the menus and see if there is audio options, also it might depend on how the sound bar is hooked up, if its an output that is only used for regular TV, or the TV tuner as its called, then it won't active when switching to the apps.
If there are no audio output jacks on set you are out of luck unless you want to open the set and hook up some wires directly to the speaker connections inside observing correct polarity.
Many Visio tv's have the same problem, and also reversed - picture and no sound. The quick fix is to disconnect the power cord at TV - then hold in the power button (usually found on left side 1/4 up from bottom of screen , located on the side/back of the set. a square button all alone) - hold power button in for 30 1,000 mississippi's, yes, that is what a Visio tech told me and it works. I was lucky enough to have the problem start before the 30 return policy ended at Walmart - decided I did not want a product that obviously has a chip failure coming soon! I exchanged for a Samsung and have not looked back!
Our Visio 42" flat screen TV did the same thing. It didn't happen that often but sometimes it would go darker or the sound would go off until I changed the channel or turned TV Off then back On. I contacted Visio through my warranty and they sent me a flash drive to install info on my TV. Did not fix the problems. A year later before warranty ended I contacted Visio again. They sent a huge box for me to pack my TV in to send to the warehouse where they fix everything. It took about 2 wks. to get it back. Worked fine for about 4 months and the problems continued. I will not buy another Visio TV. I found out that they had many problems with several models.
If you get a Vizio sound bar it comes with its own remote control and is, therefore compatable. If however, you want to control all of your electronic devices with one control, instead of searching for the particular codes just spend some small amount on a universal remote unit which has instructions that come with it that show you how to have the remote find and store codes for a whole bunch of devices including the sound bar!
I have provided a link for you to Vizio's Website. The information below is for a VSB210WS sound bar. I would go to this link and research your model number and look for the code. You may try the code on this screen to see if it will work. I have also provided a link with instructions on programming your DISH remote to other components.
Programming a Universal Remote to operate the HD Sound Bar System If you own a VIZIO TV with a Universal Remote that uses a 5-digit programming code, you may program a device button with code 31517. This will map the Universal Remote button to operate the HD Sound Bar System as follows: Pictured at right is the VIZIO VUR8P Universal Learning remote.
