Gear box oil is red and thinner than motor oil.

Testimonial: "Thanks for your suggestion. I think it is the gearbox oil which is leaking (from the smell of it). But i want to know how I can determine if there is enough oil in the gearbox, and how the leak can be repaired."

SOURCE: Oil leak

Hello Pierre,
A little more detail may help me on this one, however this sounds like possibly your power steering pipe? both these use auto trans fluid it is reddy brown in colour and viscosity (Thickness) watery.
If this is the pipe, check the fluid reservoir it should have either a Yellow top with power steering or a steering wheel diagram on it.
If full then please give me more information as to location on engine where pipe comes from and goes too as nowadays engine oil is usually internally dispersed. Only oil cooler pipes possibly? will go to a finned type radiator usually near the front grille of the vehicle.
I hope this points you in the right direction as I'm thinking of giving this help up as very hard to remain on top slot when loads of questions responded to and no replies.
Good Luck,
Paul 'W'

SOURCE: renault megane engine light flashing and car is juddering.

I have 2 meganes im working on at the moment both have the same problem. the electrical falt light is on coz the pipe has snapped (or come off) under the bonnet on the passangers side close to the window (theres a black box about 2 inch wide the pipe connects underneath). if I reconect the pipe and grab the engien with both hands it wobbles and the pipe pulls off. I suspect this is coz one (or all) the engien mountings are shagged. and this will be the cause of the juddering when driveing in first and second gears. solutions iv have come across for juddering involve changeing the coil pack but thats nothing to do with the problem my 2 cars have as one of them has new coils. they are 1.6 petrol, p reg and s reg

for topping up the transmission at the front of the gearbox there will be a rubber bung pull that out and top up with atf fluid, if topping up don't work then there could be a electrical fault check all wiring to gearbox for corosion

Hi Please how many liters of automatic gearbox oil I need to put back after taking away the old oil? Renault Megane II 1.6 16V 2005, 83kw 113hp

On the side of the gearbox, about half way up, you'll find a screw in plug. Usually with a square head. Remove that plug and fill the gearbox with the proper oil till it just starts to come out of that hole. Quickly put the plug back in and snug it. You're done.

I have a renault megane 2005model when i drive the car theres smoke coming out from the enjen can you give me advise about it please.

you probably have a oil leak or possibly a coolant leak, in either case check both levels to ensure safe operation of engine to prevent costly repairs, if not mechanically inclined take to a good mechanic for diagnosis and repair.

How do I check the gearbox level in a 2004 renault megane?

Manual or auto .if the latter then its dealer only although some do have a filler plug at the front of the gearbox but no dipstick as the auto box was originally VW which had this facility as for the oil capacity iam afraid its not listed in my autodata book if its taking a time to drop into drive and the gearbox is leaking or appears to be a bit wet then stick a litre in a see how it goes if its drops into gear and changes alright then leave it alone at the litre addition

Your gearbox should have a plug on the side and the gear lube should come up to the level of the plug.
