The nokia 5800 is an awesome phone, but you are right in that it has a touch screen and touch screens can damage more easily than a regular phone. There are things that you can do to prevent damage to the touch screen such as a transparent protective film and a carrying case. If you use those two things your touch screen will very likely last for years unless you drop the phone. I do recommend this touch screen phone if you do not plan on taking it on hikes or treating it roughly. For city use this should be a pretty good phone.
