No webcam detected laptop

Try re-installing the webcam driver from here: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/uk/en/ukdhs1/Produc...
(Click the "Drivers & Downloads" tab).

If that doesn't fix it, and there are no driver errors showing in Device Manager (ie no question marks or exclamation marks) then it's very likely that the internal webcam has broken and Windows can no longer detect it.

You can buy an external webcam to overcome that problem.

I recently formatted my computer and keep windows xp. However, when I got to the Device Manager to see if anything was missing, I saw a yellow exclamation mark next to "Video Controller (VGA...

The exclamation mark means you don't have the proper driver installed and the device may or may not work properly. If you don't have the driver CD's you will have to find the driver by searching the internet for it, download it, and install it. The hardest part can be finding the proper make and model of the device. If you know that already, it should be easy. For example if your VGA card is a ATI VGA Wonder, search for that. If you don't know, there is a means of finding it. In the same device manager where you saw the exclamation marks, click on Properties for the device, then click on the Details tab. You will see something like PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_01DF&SUBSYS.......... Use this string (yours, not my example) in your internet search and you will probably find the vendor, make and model, then you can search for a driver. Once you have the proper driver downloaded, go back into the Device Manager and click on the Driver tab of the device's properties. There is a button labeled Update Driver that starts a wizard, which will let you choose the driver you downloaded.

DELL Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-card isn't working properly on my laptop. Help, please.

First off you should check your drivers and see if there is a problem showing up there.
To do so just right click "My Computer" and select "Manage", Select "Device Manager" in the window that pops up. If you see any Yellow Exclamation marks or Question Marks, it means that particular driver is bad. You can then go to the dell website, download the appropriate driver and install it.
If there are no Yellow marks then it could be that the problem is with your configuration on the wireless router side.

I try to movies on DVD, it says please install VGA

Hi,
This is because the graphics card driver is not installed\corrupted. I've you have the driver CD insert it and install the driver for the graphics card. Else go to HP.com and select 'Drivers and download', specify your laptop model and Operating system. Download the drivers and install it.
Please come back and vote for me if this turns to be helpful for you of also if you need more clarifications. Thnx

Ethernet Controller is missing

You are unable to use the Ethernet, VGA etc. because you have not installed the drivers for the same.

You might have received a Drivers CD(it will read "Drivers and Utilities") which will be in blue color, when you got the computer from Dell.
In case if you haven't received it you can contact Dell on 1-800-624-9897 and request for a Driver CD. I guess this Dimension model is @ End of Life (I mean no more produced by dell) you might have to download the drivers from Dell's support site (www.support.dell.com) you will have to get it downloaded on a different computer and copy on a CD or a Flash drive.

Once you got all the drivers. First extract them in a separate folder

Go to Device manager
Right click on the Ethernet controller (where you see a yellow exclamation)
Click update drivers
Show the path where you have the driver files

Hi There,
You can find all the drivers for your system on dell's web site.
Look into your device manager and install the drivers for anything that has a question mark on and exclamation mark on it.
