Flash makes my pictures too bright/too dark

I have a Samsung Digimax S500 and it usually has a double flash, but now when I take pictures it either doesnt flash at all or it flashes once, really brightly.  My pictures either turn out black or the faces are white from the bright flash.  I have tried all settings and it does this.

U might want to try and put a coffee filter over your flash when you take pictures to make the flash less bright. it sounds really silly but it actually works.

Camera turns off when shutter button is pressed.

[source]Question about Samsung Digimax S500 Digital Camera[/source]
Try replacing batteries (high Ah photographic type).
The lens motor & electronics may be draining power if Ah capacity has dropped too low. At night, it could be that your flash is trying to fire (another drain), or shutter timer / mirror staying open longer.

Camera flash

No worries, I think I can help you with this one.
I believe that if you are using your Samsung Digimax in either "Auto" or "M" mode you will only have the options of "red eye flash" or "no flash". BUT HOWEVER, if you select the "Prog" mode on the dial on top of the camera, you will have 4 flash options - "red eye flash", "auto flash", "slow flash" or "no flash".
I hope that this helps!

Sony Digimax s500

If that is the case, you need to turn off your flash when
taking outdoor pictures because it seems that the pictures are overexposed.

Try to avoid the sun when taking pictures outside.

But you could try the steps below:

POWER RESET:
- Turn off camera
- Remove batteries for a minute
- Return batteries
- Turn on camera

MASTER RESET
- Turn on camera
- Press MENU button
- Scroll to the right until you see SETUP
- Scroll down and look for RESET
- Press right button so you could see YES or NO
- Select YES
- Press MENU button
- Turn off camera for a few seconds so that
settings will be refreshed

* If it still does not work, call the Manufacturer so they
could tell you how to send camera for repair.

Flash troubles- timing off or something?

this problem is fixable. set the camera under the fill-in flash mode. do the ff:
-click the flash button, (right button that has broken arrow on it)
-click it for many times until you see the icon of a big crooked arrow without something with it on the screen, that means your camera is nder the fill in flash.

when set under this mode, the flash will work in any instance you're in. because under the red eye function, flash is usually turned off.
