I need to locate the serial number on my Maytag MSD2142AR

What is the model number of your unit?

If your machine is only 2 months old and wasn't used when you bought it call the number on the label that has the model and serial number on it that is located either inside the refridgerator on the upper wall somewhere or somewhere on the frame. Being that whirlpool now owns Maytag, which encompasses Amana, you have a one year manufacturer warranty where parts and labor are both covered free of cost.

The date of manufacture is determined by the SERIAL number on the appliance. The following link explains how to determine the age on a Maytag appliance:

Locate your serial number. It will be located on the same nameplate as the model number. On most Maytag appliances, this information can be found on the back of the operator control panel. If not located there, look around the oven door or lower drawer opening.

The two LETTERS at the end of the serial number represent the date of manufacture. The FIRST letter represents the YEAR, while the SECOND letter represents the MONTH.

Your part number is 61005935 if your SERIAL number starts with a 14 or above.
Your part number is 61005339 if your serial number starts with any number below 14.

This may not be the problem now but by the sound of the malfunctioning unit, it could be in the future. The start device on some models of refridgerator for maytag and whirlpool have been recalled. If your appliance was manufactured in the last 5-10 years you may be having an issue with this component. Mine recently caught on fire at this device that is located near the compressor. If this is a Maytag model, the serial number will either be located on a nameplate somewhere around the door opening. Or, it will be located on the back of the operator console.

Al have you tried the appliancefactoryparts.com site to locate the parts you need, at that site you only need the make and model to access the parts list

I believe maytag makes a repair kit take your model number and serial to a local appliance parts store. or call maytag good luck

sounds as if perhaps the overload replay has burnt up on the compressor, you can see it by removing the back cover, unplug unit and remove the starter from the side of compressor. if burnt up or melted youll need to replace it.. before you do i would call the manufacture with model and serial theyve experienced issue with some of these depending on model and serail they may cover repair
