Maytag mah2400a washer, starts to spin, then stops to pump

This is a maytag mah2400a frontloading washer that is 4 years old. It stops through the middle of the cyle, without spinning, and gives me the 3E error message. I removed the pump, and checked it and the in and out hoses, they were not blocked.
I ran through the diagnostics and when I ran the Board Output Test for Motor and the Quick Spin Test, the tub begins to spin, then stops and the pump activates, pauses then repeats indefinately.
In the Quick Spin Test, It is supposed to start at 90 rpms then pump, then got to 400rpm, 600, etc but in never spins more than one or two revolutions, then pauses, tries to pump again and tries to spin again.
Any ideas here?
I have thus far checked the motor windings at the board connection and they are fine 3 ohms for the rotor, 1 ohm for each stator connection, the belt seems fine.
I'm stumped.

Thanks for any help.

SOURCE: Maytag Neptune Top Load FAV6800AWW -- tub/motor will not spin

Hey Cameron,
I saw you post today on another forum and did not have time to put my thoughts down before work. I agree not a clutch issue I had to :), you would be so lucky. I own the machine and can’t offer any more troubleshooting then what you have done, good job of that. Unfortunately the FAV6800AW/FAV9800AW SM doesn’t have a whole lot of support for troubleshooting beyond what you have done for this issue. I found more info from the MAH3000 manual on the technical operation of the motor controller (slightly different controller). Both machines use the same troubleshooting paths. Remove JP4 which is;
P1 Motor Control common
P2 Torque (to Motor Controller) see page 1-11 MAH3000
P3 Motor Control Tach (to control board input)
My WAG is replace the Motor Controller 1st, then Control board 2nd and a possible tach issue related to the motor. That’s enough WAGing,…. but with troubleshooting not a complete WAG :).
Take a look at pages 2-5 thru 2-11, I keyed in on page 2-11 in the MAH3000, it may give you some additional insight, I know we are dealing with different machine designs but I think the designs are close regarding motor controller, the motor and what the Control Board is doing and looking for with input from the Motor Controller. I wish the FAV6800AW/FAV9800AW SM gave this kind of detail for troubleshooting. There is a nice little troubleshooting table on 2-11.
I keyed in on this note;

The motor control monitors the signals and communicates this information to the machine control (control board). The purpose of this signal is to tell the motor when to energize each winding in the motor and to tell the machine control the actual motor speed.

Then this note;
Note: If the machine control board does not receive an input signal from the motor control/tachometer circuit (JP4 connector), the motor speed will rapidly accelerate for 5 seconds then shut down. The machine control will sense a "locked rotor" condition and the motor will stop. If the motor control does not receive an input signal from the motor, the motor will "****" for 5 seconds then shut down.

I don’t believe you have that condition. I have worked with a forum member who had an issue with the motor controller related to an Lr error, locked rotor error and replacing the Motor Controller fixed the issue. Form here I vote for an issue with the Motor Controller. Not having known good parts makes this a difficult job.
The control board is under warranty for 5 yrs from DOP, the Control Board is 2 yrs. Ebay is a good source 25001079

I would push Maytag CSV for both. I got them to send me a Control Board after discussing my troubleshooting and that I had a neighbor (me) that was a repair tech who would install. I also had to send them copy of my warranty not sure why they beeded that my machine was on file with them.
In your console you will find a Troubleshooting guide if you haven’t pulled it out already. It has the schematic for the machine which I find handy. If you want a soft PDF copy of the schematic I can e-mail you. Just ping me at [email protected]. I use that for one-way contact, just respond back on this post if you ping me, I don’t check the account for month’s at a time.
With my limited knowledge I will try to help you. Good luck. Rich

I have a maytag frontload washer 2000 series that will not start spin cycle won't even try unless the washer is empty. no error codes showing, even after I do diagnostics. help...wife is miffed..

After determining that the washer is plugged in, the drain hose is free from kinks, the "No spin" option is not selected and the washer door is securely closed, the cycle should be reselected to see if the washer will spin. If this does not solve the problem, it is advised to contact a trusted repair service. Problems with the lid switch assembly, drive belt, drive pulley, drive motor, tub bearing or transmission can also cause a Maytag washer not to spin. These repairs should be carried out by a professional.
If the washer is spinning but clothes are still wet at the end of the cycle, one should ensure that the washer is not overloaded or unbalanced and that the correct wash cycle is selected. Delicate or handwash cycles spin at a lower speed, resulting in wetter clothes

Musty smell coming from the machine

one reason could be that the outlet pump is not working to full capacity leaving a small amount of dirty water remaining after spinning, the cure would be a good pump clean out or maybe replace the pump if machine is old, or another reason could be what we call back-syphoning where the washer sometimes can fill up from the house sink waste - if the washer outlet is connected to the U bend, this also is a simple cure, make a loop in the pipe or fit an anti-syphon valve, normal a cheap price from a vac store...hope i have helped - 20 years of experience doing appliances

My Maytag MAH-24 Washer suddenly started making a clunking grinding sound in the middle of the spin cycle.

The rear tub bearing is going out, and the cost starts normally about the 450 and up range,

Maytag washer leaking from bottom

This is a fix for the Maytag MAH2400AWW, the machine kept displaying SUDS, the machine is 2-3 years old and it started doing this 4-5 months ago. I cleaned out the washer, and used HE detergent, ran it empty, to try to flush it out, used approved cleaners and ran it throught the cycle, still no good. I finally took out out a maintenance contract with BSF, the service guy came out today pulled the pump off and showed me inside it was missing half of the blades off the impeller. I remembered a year ago a coin had wedged in the pump which I took out and put back, not realising it had taken some teeth off the pump. Therefore the pump was not able to pump out the sudsy water very well which was staying inside the drum causing the suds light to come on, they installed a new pump for me, which was covered in the contract for free. Now it's working like new again.

Maytag MAH2400A Front Load Washer

likely a rubber gasket slipped off the groove.... try taking it apart and slipping the gasket back on.

heavy loads have more force during the spin cycle.

Rattling noise during spin cycle

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

The Maytag wahser stops and the door is unlocked

Something large in the drain pump could be the problem. You might need to remove it and take a look inside.
