My oven is more then 20 years old. It shuts down at random . It will flash F2 or F3. I don't have the book that goes with it. I know I need to replace it just limping along. Please tell me what F2 ,F3 mean.Thank you
Kenmore' F2 or F3 usually points to an open oven temperature sensor. If that is the problem, it's not an expensive repair.

I don't know where your older model Kenmore sensor is but mine is top left back wall inside oven. Easy to see and should be a couple of screws holding it. If you remove the access panel at the back of the stove, you can see the sensor from the back. follow the wires coming out of it and there should be a 2 pin plastic type connector that can be discvonnected. If your man has a multimeter, he can measure the resistance of the sensor element. Make sure that before you do all that work that the main power wire is disconnected. The resistance measurement is made with no power applied. BE SAFE!

It sounds like the module is momentarily losing power when the bake relay clicks off. Does it do the same thing when you use broil?
Post back with the complete model number and I will try to find the wiring diagram for it and we will walk through checking it.
Thanks/Mike

f3 is a bad oven sensor, two screws will remove it in the upper left or right hand side of inner cavity.thin metal shaft protuding maybe 3inches or so.

Not sure why it is so expensive for you folks but I live in Edmonton and got the part for 44.50 plus tax at Reliable Parts

i think f3 error code has something to do with the temp probe maybe it is the problem. the temp probe is located if you open the door directly in the back wall. it looks like a prong. should read 1100ohms the f2 error code though usually has something to do with the keypad i would check all the connections maybe they are loose.

The sensor "probe" is inside the oven, usually on the back wall. Mine is at the top left hand corner. It's held by 2 screws. MAKE SURE POWER IS DISCONNECTED FROM STOVE. Remove back access panel to get to the wiring. You can see the back of the sensor and it has 2 wires coming out of it and a 2 pin plastic connector. This can be disconnected and you can measure the resistance. Normally around 1,100 ohms for a good one. Good luck!
