I sucessfully replaced a part of the bobbin winding mechanism and now every time I press the pedal to sew "E 1" shows on the display. If I manually turn the wheel, it sews fine, just not with the foot pedal. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Make sure you lower the presser foot
before continuing the operation.
The foot controller was pressed (or the start/stop button
was pressed if the foot controller is not connected)
and the reverse/reinforcement stitch button
was pressed while the presser foot was raised.
Thank you very much! I saw the other info. for E1 error message but the drawing showed it correctly with presser foot down then close. The instructions said presser foot up. What a pain! So with your tip (presser foot down) it was 2 to 1 and voila it works again. I had to replace the bobbin winder originally. Repair shops here won't even work on these . Although I have another machine I thought it would be a waste to toss this one if I didn't have to. Thanks again!
I'm sorry! The above comment should have gone to tcolello.

SOURCE: Presser foot down, but still get error "E1"
I had the same problem. It started after I took the cover off to fix something else. After I screwed the cover back on, I kept getting the E1 message even when the foot was already down. I took the cover off again, and I found that there is a metal tab at the top left of the front cover, that is pushed by a metal tab in the back that moves when you put the presser foot up or down. You can see this metal tab moving in the back if you put the foot up and down with the cover off. Just putting the foot down(I think) before putting the cover back on fixed it so one metal tab is on the correct side of the other metal tab.
SOURCE: bobbin case is moving out of place
I was having the same problem with my machine and finally the spring broke. I couldn't find any parts for this so my husband made me a new spring out of a coke can! LOL!! Anyway, he messed with it for a while and it kept doing it. He figured out that it was not the spring but the other piece under the spring was not pushed up far enough to keep the bobbin case in place so he took a screw driver and pushed it forward toward the bobbin case and now my bobbin case does not move!! And the machine is sewing perfect! At least for now. Anyway, it's not the spring or the thread adjusting screw!

Im not sure if this will help but thought I would pass it along. My Pfaff 6122 tells me to check bobbin for thread unrolling clockwise before you place it back in the machine. I had mine turned to un roll counter clockwise, this is wrong, the bobbin will fall out when you pull on the thread while you are holding it in your hand. You may just keep putting it in backwards. Hope this works for you. J.R.

the rubber ring on the bobbin winder has probably gone bad which would mean replacing it but you can buy a portable bobbin winder called a sidewinder for around 20.00
